Wendy’s is preparing to test an “Uber-style” surge-pricing model where prices will fluctuate throughout the day based on demand — meaning a Dave’s burger will cost more during the lunchtime rush.
Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner — who rose to the chief role earlier this month — announced the new system on a call with investors, noting that the pricing menu will begin testing in 2025, Daily Mail earlier reported.
With the dynamic pricing model, the chain’s iconic Dave’s Single could increase by as much as $1 at lunchtime and drop down by the same amount after the lunch rush.
With constant pricing shifts, Wendy’s will rely on “digital menu boards,” Tanner said.

Back in the early to mid 2000’s, i ate Wendy’s for lunch pretty regularly. Jr bacon cheesburger, small fry and med tea for $2.25.
Now the same items cost me almost $9.00.
They have fancy salads but $11.00? No thanks. Hard to find something for lunch to tide me over till dinner.
Guess this implies that it is free if their business is at a standstill...
You hit it perfectly. You should be doing their million-dollar consulting, lol.
The surge exists because so many people have lunch hours fixed at work. That’s who’s going to have to pick up the price increases. It will be an interesting experiment but I suspect the free market, or at least as free as it actually is, is going to be a little negative on this one. Time will tell.
Burgers at Wendy’s sux but their chicken and salads are pretty good. This pricing by peak and off times are ridiculous. Just one of many reasons to cast off these fast food type places . Bad value these days for the shrinking dollars.
Our local Wendy’s closed two weeks ago.
Dave Thomas is rolling over in his mausoleum cell.
Yep. It’s coming. Here in CA, our electrical/gas rates will be based upon our income. Kinda eliminates the motivation to advance one’s station in life, which used to advance everyone’s station in life. No more. Can’t have it. “Equity”, doncha know...
last I read wendy’s doesn’t save cooked patties long for hamburgers. But they have a pan under the grill and out the patties there and that’s what you get inn the chili.
This will fail. Customers will rebel.
It penalizes people who have jobs and have fixed hours for lunch.
EZ-Pass was free to use when I signed up. Somewhere along the line they started charging a buck a month. Probably still worth keeping, but it’s close.
Stupid marketing.
The way to sell this is to first mark up the prices and then, as a matter of goodwill to the customers, offer a “discount” during non-prime hours. Maybe a happy-hour burger.
Not as good as it was.
Prices are lower if you use the app at the fast food places. I have trouble doing so as I would drop by on a spur of the moment. It asks for a login and I cannot remember.... If I walk in or use the drive thru I am charged higher prices and now THIS?!
Nope not going period.
