* The tech entrepreneur has revealed a product called 'XMail' is 'coming'
* Elon Musk launches his answer to ChatGPT called 'Grok'
Elon Musk has already released his own version of ChatGPT.
Now it seems the tech entrepreneur is about to take on Google's Gmail by creating an email service of his own.
In an exchange on his social media platform X, Musk has revealed that a product called 'XMail' is 'coming'.
He's offered no more details about the service, so it's unclear when it may be available, although it's expected to be integrated within the X app.
MailOnline has contacted the press department at X (formerly Twitter) for comment.
The news was revealed when Nathan McGrady, an engineer at X posted the message: 'When we making XMail?'
Musk simply replied with the words: 'It's coming.'
Musk has a habit of making outlandish promises that don't come to fruition, so it's worth taking this one with a pinch of salt.
Even if XMail is released, it will have to be something special to usurp Gmail, the world's most popular email service
According to Demand Sage, Gmail has more than 1.8 billion active users globally as of 2024.
Social media consultant Rhea Freeman said X's version of Gmail 'might happen' and if it does 'it'll be interesting to see the uptake'.

I think it’s high time for someone to actually compete with Google, I’m not sure Elon Musk can do it, but if anyone can offer a credible option to Google, he can.

Don’t make as hard to get , LOL
To: Red Badger
I would guess that their search engine is still their main source of revenue, or, at least, the linchpin.

Some mega entrepreneur will come along after him and rename everything to Y.

I’m game for a concept like Xmail.
I’ll certainly be checking it out and if it looks good, don’t see any reason not to change.
I don’t like Googles‘s spying on my emails.

If it is competitive with Drive they will do well.

The subtext re AI isn’t some outlandish robot conspiracy that will kill us all a la Terminator. It’s a search engine that gives us what we want that would normally take a huge amount of time, because it has collated and synthesized a huge amount of data. If Twitter manages this feat, it will crush Google. For stock investors, you might be able to pull IBM’s entire earnings history, compare returns on capital in different periods at the expense of merely being able to formulate the appropriate request. If Musk pulls this off first, Twitter will have been worth every penny.

I didn’t see it in the article (scanned only), but Google is shutting down gmail this year.

Thx for that. I’ll look into. I’ve had a gmail account for many years now and hated to have to change (not that I like Google).
