Ukraine’s military has destroyed a Russian A-50 surveillance aircraft, Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk said on Friday.
“The A-50 with the call sign ‘Bayan’ has flown its last!” Oleshchuk wrote on the Telegram messaging app.

Maybe.....it just seems to me that they’d show a photograph of any parts of the wreckage from “Bayan”. They don’t. The picture in the link is a downed Russian cruise missile from last year (in the caption).

The Russian language has words for both, “Rodina” is the Motherland and “Otechestvo” is the Fatherland. The former was more in used during the Soviet period than the latter, but the holiday is formally called The Day of the Defenders of “Otechestvo”, not “Rodina”.
The same holiday was called Soviet Army Day back in the USSR.
