A number of Republican and MAGA figures have reacted angrily after The Houston Chronicle, one of the biggest newspapers in Texas, endorsed President Joe Biden.
The Houston Chronicle's editorial board said they would be backing Biden in the Democratic primary and for re-election so he can "make life better" for the American people as well as prevent the "chaos, corruption and danger to the nation" that would accompany his presumed 2024 Republican challenger Donald Trump returning to the White House.
The Houston Chronicle's praise for Biden will be a boost for the Democrat as he seeks re-election in November. It remains to be seen how much of a difference the endorsement will make, seeing as Texas has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate for nearly 50 years, with Trump beating Biden in 2020 by six points in the red state.
In their editorial, the paper's board admit that Biden "has his shortcomings," but what his administration has achieved during his time in office is a "potent reminder to his fellow Democrats, to independents and to those Republicans who have somehow resisted Trump's cultish appeal that the nation has a viable alternative."

Amazingly one of the reasons given is the USA has the best post - covid economy in the world of developed nations. Could have fooled me as when we go to the store and pay 100 dollars more for a weeks groceries than just a few years ago (for 2 people!!!) while our pay might be 50 dollars higher per week.
I will also add the Chronicle endorses Sheila Jackson Lee in the primary—The same Lee who just recently tried to pass an anti “white supremacy bill” basically a thought crime law.
I don’t know what the Houston Chronicle used to be like but clearly the editorial board is turning left.
all the major papers in Texas will do that, they are just the first to be publicly stupid.
Dude… it’s Houston… it’s been overrun by New Orleanians and has a Democrat lesbian for mayor who promptly used her position of power to attack and imprison Republican politicians in her town for wrongthink.
If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you read the newspaper, you’re mis-informed.

The HC was lefties when I lived there 35 years ago, some thing just don’t change
A newspaper endorsed a Democrat? Shocking!
“I don’t know what the Houston Chronicle used to be like but clearly the editorial board is turning left.”
It seems to me that most newspapers are farther left than they used to be. Twenty or thirty years ago, even the San Francisco Chronicle had a token conservative columnist and ran syndicated stuff from the likes of Pat Buchanan. Now, the paper is 100% liberal advocacy, basically where Mother Jones was in the ‘80s.
Why the shift? I think partly generational change among editorial staff. There was an old guard of newspaper people, though left-leaning, that basically supported the idea of being even-handed and presenting multiple viewpoints. That generation was replaced by, let’s call it an “Obama generation,” that has dispensed with any sort of facade of objectivity. I think another factor is declining readership. As younger people turn to the internet, and conservatives balk at liberal rags, there’s a vicious cycle in which newspaper readership continually dwindles down to elderly white liberals.
The Chronicle’s endorsement carries much less weight than does their complete propaganda on all the other pages.
For instance, their sports pages will include bits about “global warming,” police brutality, racism in sports, etc. The entertainment pages will be full of bits of progressive BS in every other paragraph. And so on.
Houston? My shocked face....😴
It’s simple.. Cities = Liberals so no surprise.
One of the reasons newspapers in the United States are dying is they’re out of touch with 85% of the people in the cities they serve.
It’s true I went to the Houston Chronicle, although I can’t read the article as they have a pay wall.
>>>Here you go:
Who are you talking about?
Houston's mayor is John Whitmire, male, with two children from a prior marriage.
New Orleans' mayor is LaToya Cantrell, female, who has one child from a marriage to her husband who died last year.
-PJ
Another reason newspapers are having problems is that “most of the cities they serve” are filled with people who can’t read English.
They are comparing the US economy to those of the EU which are in frank recession. Pretty low bar for bragging rights.
Maybe it’s time to start sending all the illegals to Houston.
Newspaper endorsements have marginal meaning at best these days.
Houston’s mayor is John Whitmire. Yeah a Democrat but not a female Lesbian, The previous mayor was Silvester Turner an incompetent black man
Houston has been overtaken by the lying brainless bots known as Democrats.
