The mother of the 15-year-old New York boy who died while subway surfing last year has now launched a lawsuit against the city's subway network, TikTok and Meta.
Norma Nazario's son Zackery Nazario died while subway surfing on a Brooklyn-bound J train over the Williamsburg Bridge on February 20, 2023.
A low beam struck the teenager in the head, causing him to fall between the subway cars and before he could get away, a train ran over him.
A year after his death, Norma has filed a lawsuit against the MTA and the social media platforms, claiming that the apps 'goaded' her child into the deadly stunt by recommending similar videos.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages from TikTok, Meta and the MTA.

FAFO -—— He is worth dead than alive, to Mom.
He had not yet reached the age of accountability. How sad.
I wonder who paid for the kid’s phone. Perhaps that person should be included as a defendant, too. :-0
Her lawyer hasn’t coached her well enough to pull this grift off.
Keep them home, keep them alive.

Oops.
Stupidity is the only universal capital crime.

So a beam struck him in the head, he fell between subway cars while moving? And before he could get away, (between subway cars) was hit by another train? That makes zero sense.
Thug
Meta is making that claim? That’s what the headline suggests.
Let’s go surfing now
Everybody’s learning how
Come on a subway with me
Early in the morning we’ll be starting out
Some bitches will be coming along
We’re loading up our glock
With our rounds inside
And heading out singing our song
Let’s go surfing now
Everybody’s learning how
Come on a subway with me
“That makes zero sense.”
A couple of thoughts. I was writing articles for the newspaper in the nineties. As the industry collapsed and was overwhelmed by the social media, they shed editors until there were none. (When my editor was laid off and my columns went in unedited, I started getting fan mail.) But the other columns started using what I’ll charitably call “blacklish.” Meaning “I be, they be, we’all be.”
Now, there is such a need for clickable content anything and everything gets published. It doesn’t matter whether it makes sense or not. The objective is you clicked on it, and they got paid. Whether it was grammatically correct of not doesn’t matter. Click/paid.
The beam wasn't low - it was exactly where it was supposed to be.
Zackery, on the other hand, was where he wasn't supposed to be.
Cha-ching.
Not to mention the beam is an inanimate object. It didn’t strike him. He struck it.
What a money grubber.
The cleaning lady at our Church/school in Jacksonville brought her grandson to work with her every day. His parents were both in prison for murder/drugs. She didn’t want him to hang in the hood after school. We sponsored him in Cub/Boy Scouts. He wound up going to the University of Florida.
