Now, however, if they allowed teachers to mete out meaningful punishments many would be reluctant to do so for fear of physical violence from the students.

Let’s see... parents let the internet parent their children. Parents won’t allow anyone to correct their child taking the position that their child is nearly perfect.
Kids realize that they can do almost anything, and this is what you get. The National Guard will be handcuffed just as the indoctrinators are.
They could be fined.
Until the fines are paid, no driving license.
They are of high school age.
Young ladies don’t like to walk when they can ride in style.
Young men generally like the companionship of young ladies.

This is the school version of the city “broken windows” theory. Don’t address the small problems. Then the next thing you know, you’ve got big problems.
I taught at an urban high school for quite some time. It was okay at first. The administrators knew what they were doing.
Then the wiz kid administrators took over. The little problems were ignored. Students came late to class, students used their cell phones in class, etc. We teachers send reports in. Administration ignored the reports. Gotta look good on paper. So keep those suspension numbers down.
Then everybody was oh so surprised when the school fell apart.
Make prayer illegal. Bake for 20 years.
The public school is beyond repair.
They should return to single-sex schools.
In co-ed schools, even for civilized people, 95% of the time is spent pursuing or thinking of the other sex. In a single-sex school, that drops to 90%, doubling productivity.

LOL. Hobbes talked about man’s life in a state of nature with no law enforcement as being nasty, brutish and short. A teenager’s life in the state of nature with no law enforcement is cutting class, sex and drugs.

Probably a majority of the students have reached legal adulthood. Personally I think it should be made easier for those 17 and older to leave H.S.. Instead of laws meant to keep them in school (such as delaying D.L) schools should stop being a warehouse especially of those for whom H.S. is pointless.
