Toyota Tops Most Dependable Brands And Cars Survey, Chrysler Dead Last

The latest dependability study results from J.D. Power make for grim reading if you’re in the market for a new car. The longer-term reliability of two thirds of all brands has decreased, and industry-wide, drivers are experiencing 190 problems per 100 vehicles.

That’s 4 more problems per 100 vehicles than the study found 12 months ago. Worse still, the rate at which problems present themselves has increased. A year ago, 12 percent of people experienced an issue in the first 90 days to three years of ownership. Now, the rate is up to 17 percent.

It should be noted here that JD Power’s 2024 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study collected feedback from 30,595 original owners of 2021 model-year vehicles after three years of ownership. This study took place from August through November 2023.

Have never ever owned a Chrysler - now Fiat (Fix It Again Tony)

Jeep is owned by Chrysler which is owned by Fiat -which is owned by Peugeot. (Although some say Peugeot merged into Fiat instead of the other way around, Peugeot got 6 of the board seats, and Fiat got 5. Also, per Wikipedia "Peugeot is considered the acquirer for accounting purposes, and statements reflect PSA's historical records"

I’ve had use of two 300’s. One was an old V6. Meh. Now the new V6 is the same engine I have in my Pacifica. Great engine. It should last longer than the van does.

Had a 2000 Frontier which cruised to 215K with no prblems, but was 2WD and living in the mountains got old putting chains on. Got a 2006 Frontier 4x4 and was pleased with it until 150K when the transmission blew up, replace it and limped along for another 20K before lots of things started to fail. Luckily found a low miles one owner 2013 Tacoma and snapped it up, 20 pages of scheduled maintenance records, should last forever.

Toyota acknowledged they screwed up the application of paint that year. Most cars don’t make the fifteen years before you notice the paint chipping. My grandson’s been driving it since ‘20. North of 425,000 miles. It never left me stranded.

Yah! My Xterra had that same Rockford Fosgate sound system. I could dial that in LOUD! And still be clear with no distortions.

Best sound system I ever had.

I agree. The only Jeeps I would consider would be the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler.

All others are glorified Fiats.

“Non-union.”

Yep, will not support the UAW zombies.

Hope no one has forgotten to never buy a UAW car built on a Monday of Friday.

“i have to laugh at wretched Audi down there with the chisler junk.
most over-hyped cars ever.”

I owned an Audi Fox, it was four years old and had very few miles on it. Worst piece of crap I ever owned! I had it for about six months, quite the money pit. I spent a lot of money on it just to unload it.

I think the two issues with Honda is all of the new computer junk they have to put on the car and they keep making the power train more "efficient," which means smaller engines with turbos and 9 speed transmissions.

My 2014 Honda CRV is bullet proof and had one warranty issue in the second year. The CRV has over 200K miles and does not use a lick of oil. My wife's 2020 Honda Pilot had some computer software/wiring issue at purchase, but we knew of the defect (the internet had already documented the problem and the solution) prior to purchase and the dealership got all issues worked out within two appointments. The Pilot only has 65K miles, but has had no other issues.

OBTW, my CRV has a 175HP 2 liter engine, but the new CRV has a 175 HP 1.5 liter engine with a turbo. Guess which one will need to be replaced first?

Chrysler/Plymouth was always dead last in reliability in American cars. Some GM models were the best. But their reliability probably peaked around the turn of the century. It has been all down hill from there.

The Ram trucks have Aisin or 68RFE transmissions. American axles. 2002 was last year they had Dana. Had the Cummins powered trucks since 1995. Been very reliable trucks.
