Already have tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower germinating in peat pots in the green house for this years garden. More to come next month like eggplant, zucchini, carrots, radishes, romaine, peppers, artichoke, butternut squash, cantaloupe, watermelon, maybe corn again too...
We still have a bunch of butternut squash soup and zucchini fritters in the freezer in vacuum sealed packages from last years harvest.
Zucchini fritters: shred your zucchini, make patties and fry them til fully cooked, let cool then put in vacuum sealed bags. when time to eat let defrost and put in Air Fryer for about 10 minutes. They come out awesome, we had some the other night with burgers.
We will all be gardening on a budget…until the government and the UN/WEF steps in and outlaws it “to save the planet”!
Gardening tip- open the catalogue of plants and seeds, look at all the things that look yummy, circle them, get your credit card, and order them
Then wo4k overtime to pay it all off.
Had some green beans the other night- what a difference between home grown and store bought can beans. still eating carrots, corn which is excellent in soups and stews. Did tfind the real sweet corn last year like we did in the last few years , but what we had was still plenty y good in soups. made a lamb stew last week- it was awesome.
A good time to check your box of seeds for those seeds you bought but have yet to plant! (And any seeds packaged more than 5 years ago you can wild sow on a windy day on your garden's "Fairy Island", if you have one! )
Look for poles sticking out the top of trash cans. Typically people will throw out several at a time. Akso... screw together short poles to make taller ones.
Gardening on a Budget
Too late.
$1200 down, $2500 to go.
The weather was dry and unseasonably warm for most of the past week here in Central Missouri. It cooled down to more normal temps over the weekend. Weather guessers were calling for rain but it seems they’ve backed off from that prediction for my part of the state and now think it’s going to be another mostly warm and dry week.
Still nothing going on in the garden but if the weather holds I should be able to get the last of the dirt pile moved out of the way next weekend.
In the meantime it’s just more organizing the workshop, cleaning up little messes, and trying to get ready for spring.
Also in the meantime I get to enjoy another year of KC being Super Bowl champs.
