Biden Govt Classes Martha’s Vineyard as ‘Low-Income’ So It Qualifies for Subsidized EV Chargers.

The Joe Biden regime has classified elite getaways, including Martha’s Vineyard, as “low-income” in an effort to qualify them for an electric vehicle (EV) charger subsidy program under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). The EV charger tax credit program was supposed to allocate subsidies to “low-income” or “non-urban” areas. An examination of the Department of Energy’s (DOE) eligibility map identified several upscale areas deemed “low-income” by the regime, allowing them to receive EV charger subsidies. To be seen as “low-income,” areas must either have a poverty rate of over 20 percent, a median income beneath 80 percent of their wider metropolitan region’s median family income, or not be linked to any particular metro area.

Somehow, affluent areas such as the resort destination of Nantucket Island and the Vineyard Haven section of Martha’s Vineyard have met these criteria...

I imagine the argument is no link to a bigger metro area. If you live in on an island, some inconveniences ensue.

A tax deduction for people owning electric vehicles located more than a 50 mile drive from the nearest charging station that made use of a ferry automatically qualify would accomplish the same thing.

Labeling Martha's Vineyard 'low income' no less means to an end than describing large battery on wheels used for transportation an 'electric vehicle.'

It would be great if builders got permits for low-income housing buildings there, now that they are classified as low income...

I suspect they argue that Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are "not linked to any particular metro area."

To be seen as “low-income,” areas must either have a poverty rate of over 20 percent, a median income beneath 80 percent of their wider metropolitan region’s median family income, or not be linked to any particular metro area.

So just about any non-urbanized inhabited island would qualify. Even Epstein's Island will get its subsidized charger!
