Better money spent here than global warming, cooling, climate change, racism, perversion, etc.

Fusing two Hydrogen atoms into one Helium atom, creating vast power and a replacement source for Helium that is used for MRI machines and other superconductor uses.
A win-win.
Pity it'll never be commercially viable.

Well, they got more out of the fuel than the laser delivered, so that’s nice. But I’m sure they didn’t ‘break even’ when taking into account:
-powering the lasers
-powering the confinement scheme
-running the vacuum pumps
-refining the fuel
-cooling everything
etc etc
That’s the thing about these fusion “break even” reports: it’s largely a matter of zooming in to the fine scale. It’s kind of like saying your running back “advanced the ball!”, but then you realize he moved it half a yard out to the one yard line, and the end zone is still 99 yards away.
Still, it’s progress.

I’m surprised that Aneeqa Kahn didn’t mention that there is only one sure way to halve global carbon emissions in the next 6 years.
Use Thermonuclear Fission to apply the “final solution” to roughly 5-6 Billion people and coupling that with the effects of Nuclear Winter, all the Global Warming issues will be a thing of the past.
You all know that this is the “final solution” most favored by Nazi Klaus Schwab and his WEF stooges. Fusion is just a diversion.
Sarcasm??

We could just use fission if we used Thorium which has a benign decay series.
The fact that we don't speaks volumes about the power of traditional Big NRG and our coin-operated Congress.

Experiments run by Department of Defense aimed at proving, in a tangential way, the US knows how to make fusion bombs. The use of lasers in a batch process has no scalable means to usable electrical power, EVER.

It has certainly been nothing more than a money dump.

I wonder what the energy output ratio needs to be in order to engineer a self sustaining system. At 2:1 output to input it seems the scale would have to be impractically massive to cover all the inefficiencies in systems necessary to convert output heat to electricity and keep powering the Laser.
