I got to see the MC5 twice in Detroit. I still have the first edition, the unedited version, of their first album. This is a sad loss for those who experienced that time period in Detroit.

I remember MC5’s Kick out the jams. Aggressive raunchy garage band fare with fast tempos. Punk derived from bands like MC5, Blue Cheer and others. More about attitude than melodies and musicianship.

His band-mate, Fred "Sonic" Smith was married to Patti Smith (Patti Smith Group).

She wrote the song "Frederick" about him - one of the few songs she actually uses a singing voice with.
