JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department firefighters have been fighting a fire at the still-under-construction Rise Doro apartments in Downtown Jacksonville since Sunday night.
According to JFRD, the fire at RISE Doro started at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. Fire crews battled the fire all through the night, and they are continuing to spray Tuesday morning for hot spots at the structure. City officials say the RISE Doro apartment complex was deemed unsafe, so they want to make sure nearby businesses remain closed. This includes Intuition Ale Works, Manifest Distilling, and the offices across A. Phillip Randolph, Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan said. The company that owns the Doro, RISE Real Estate, was granted a $6 million tax break in late 2020. It’s a rebate on any property taxes the apartments would have generated. Deegan said the city isn’t out any money. “That was a REV grant of about $6.5 million that doesn’t get paid until the project is completed. It has not been paid out yet and obviously won’t be now until the building is completed,” Deegan said.

And all of a sudden just before that a fire totals the brand new apartment complex?
Mix all that with a virtue signaling SJW liberal mayor and who knows WHAT is really going on.
It ain't no accident, that's for sure.
Was this a new low income project that would end up like Cabrini-Green?
No this was to be a high end complex meant to attract professionals to live downtown......even had a pool on the roof.......HAD.
I wouldn’t live downtown Jacksonville if they gave me an apartment and all utilities free of charge.
DUVAL PING!
Nobody goes there any more. It’s too crowded..................
So...all the sheetrock was in and finished. Water and sheetrock don't mix. Big time water damage.
All seriousness aside though...there are some tenants that are breathing a sigh of relief. If the fire occurred AFTER they moved in...fire crews would be searching for bodies.
The whole structure is a total loss and will have to be razed.
I’m hearing the city is planning to INCREASE the 6.5 million dollar tax credit already agreed to in an effort to convince them to rebuild......think about that for a minute.
It’s too dangerous
When I was 14, 16 years old, I’d take the bus downtown and spend practically all day there after collecting my paper route money.................
How did the fire start?..............
That’s a good question.
Still investigating it.
My money is on transients, squatters hsd a meth lab or most nefarious.......it was set deliberately for some financial reason.
The fire starts right before it’s occupied and also before the sprinkler system is online?
Kinda too much of a coincidence for me.
My guess is homeless cooking fire......................
Just some illegal squatters tryna get their heat on.
Yeah, it was chilly that night.
Chili today, hot tamale.....................
Thanks. If the downtown looks anything like Denver, who would want to live there?
Corruption in FL local government permitting and insurance payola.
Paging Carl Hiassen.
