The world's largest cruise ship has begun its seven-day maiden voyage from Port Miami - carrying nearly the population of a small city onboard.

The Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas set sail today on a seven-day island-hopping voyage in the Caribbean before returning to Miami.

The $2 billion ship runs nearly 1,200 feet (365 meters) from bow to stern and has 20 decks, 2,350 crew, 2,805 staterooms along with room for 7,600 passengers.

These cruise ships keep getting uglier. The straight bow is interesting.

Prefer a fishing trip in Canada’s pristine lakes. Walleye will always be my favorite fish.

I hope they did the math right on the strength of the hull, safety and training issues. History is littered with mistakes from the Titanic to the Costa Concordia.

It’s a combo floating Petrie dish and ant farm.

Gack.

What a ridiculous way to vacation, although I do look forward to the end of winter. I've already got three different week long reservations at lakeside campgrounds for this summer. I did a midwinter check on the motor home, all is well, and replaced the old small-dish satellite equipment with a 3rd-gen Starlink unit, and upgraded the TV to 75 inches.

“ Despite claims that the LNG being used is better than traditional marine fuel, environmentalists believe the ship poses high risks for methane emissions….”

One look at obese clientele in the buffet lineup, and I would tend to agree. My sister went on one of these cruises and the staff referred to these waddling buffet goers as Jersey Giants.

The Royal Caribbean has said the Icon is 24 percent more efficient when it comes to carbon emissions than required by the International Maritime Organization …

Oh, well then, I’m sold! Let’s sail!

NOT!!

Maybe this is where entropy12 has been!

One of the 8,000 pax.

No, thanks!

I still think it looks like it was built and painted by a bunch of Panama bus drivers.

The latest grotesquery of modern civilization. 8000 human bodies sharing the same ship is about as disgusting as it gets.

A viking river cruise was truly relaxing. 190 passengers, no crowding, everyone eats at the same time. And no kids! Enjoyed every minute of our 14 day trip Amsterdam to Budapest. I was on navy aircraft carriers (2) and the 5k crew was quite enough for me.

I hope there are enough life boats for 8000 passengers and 3000 crew.
