How loyalty to Trump could become the latest wedge threatening to divide Republicans
Washington Examiner ^ | January 20, 2024 | Cami Mondeaux

Former President Donald Trump‘s penchant for punishing GOP detractors is trickling down to Congress as some of his most ardent supporters are using loyalty to the former president as a litmus test for the Republican Party.

Since launching his bid for the 2024 presidential election, Trump has kept a continuous calculation of those who have thrown their support behind him and, more importantly, those who have not. For those who have considered other candidates, the former president has been quick to decry their disloyalty and even vow to make them suffer politically.

“Bob Good won’t be electable when we get done with him,” Chris LaCivita, a senior adviser to Trump’s presidential campaign, told the Cardinal News.

That threat is in reference to Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good (R-VA), who threw his support behind Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) last year. The endorsement has angered Trump and his allies, with several falling in line behind the president to target the Virginia Republican.

“Here we have Bob Good, who has doubled down on his endorsement for DeSantis and his clear disdain and hate for President Trump,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a staunch supporter of Trump, told the Washington Examiner. “He doesn’t think President Trump is electable. Bob Good is disloyal, which means you can’t trust him. People need to know this.”

Good brushed off Greene’s comments, arguing that he would rather focus on government spending and securing the border rather than internal disputes.

“I don’t have time to waste commenting on every silly comment made in a House Conference meeting or on Twitter/X,” Good told the Washington Examiner in a statement. “But if members are looking to punish conservatives for trying to keep our promises, good luck keeping a majority.”

He had a naive way of looking at politics.......

When asked why he didnt put Hillary in jail after her scurrilous attacks on him,
financing the phony Russia dossier which put Manafort in solitary, Trump’s response?

“Because we dont do things like that in America to our opponents.”

Biden never heard of it...../s.

“Border?”

The US needs to exit the Refugee Convention. I’m the only person here that has called for that as far as I know. Only two people on The Conservative Treehouse have also called for that as far as I know.

“J6 political prisoners?”

Anybody who was violent is going to suffer. The trespassers should have just been fined a week’s income for entering public areas closed that day and a month’s for entering non-public areas.

“Massive Gov’t debt?”

We need to dedicate all federal corporate income tax and all high income personal income tax to pay it off. Probably need to add a federal sales tax too.

“Massive crime wave?”

State matter except in DC.

“Election fraud?”

We need to restrict mail-in voting to good cause cases.

“Attacks on a Republican presidential nominee to keep him on ballots?”

That’s really an Amendment XIV “equal opportunity” issue. Any state legislature has the power to control presidential electors otherwise.

“Outlawing digital currencies?”

I have a VISA debit card already. I’ve never been contractually allowed to pay any rent in cash.

“Targeting of conservatives by FBI and DOJ?”

I think a 10% budget cut is in order.

That’s nice - why isn’t Biden letting the Democrats have a primary for Bernie or RFK?

Where’s that “muh Democracie” for them?!

Thank you. One of my main concerns about a Trump candidacy, is that he is pulling the party to the left, regularly and consistently. The planned destruction of Bob Good by the Trump campaign is yet another perfect example.

The responses in this thread you noted indicate that many of his supporters seemingly don’t care. This is of course why and how the party platform is actually being moved away from conservatism, as Trump alone can’t do it, it is and will be done by his devotees. I for one am not moving away from conservatism, and hope this site in whole site doesn’t either. Thanks again.

“Help the black community get out of poverty”

Detroit was America’s most prosperous large city in 1950.

I think a 10% budget cut is in order.

I think firing the top 10% is in order... and putting them in GITMO.

“Help the black community get out of poverty”

Poverty is much a matter of climate. Ask Oprah Winfrey about Montecito, California.

We have a lot of people in Florida living outside (the normal economy).

They go to food banks and homeless agencies for stuff.

This is where we head into the truly insulting part of politics. Where people tell me how to vote to benefit them. I don’t care what others think will benefit them. I vote based on MY analysis of how my vote will most benefit me; and benefit the country since I and the USA are inextricably linked.

You vote, I’ll vote and we’ll both deal with the results. I done that for over half a century and I will continue to do that.
