2024 NFL playoffs: Steelers vs. Bills Super Wild Card Weekend game postponed to Monday due to weather

The New York governor made the announcement Saturday

Multiple Super Wild Card Weekend matchups will be affected due to weather, and now, one game has been postponed because of it. Saturday, New York governor Kathy Hochul announced that the Pittsburgh Steelers at Buffalo Bills playoff matchup will be moved from 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, to 4:30 p.m. Monday due to dangerous conditions.

Governor Hochul posted on social media that travel is going to be extremely dangerous in Western New York, and that a full travel ban has been implemented for Erie County starting at 9 p.m.

The Steelers have not traveled to Buffalo and are scheduled to leave on Sunday, according to CBS Sports Lead NFL Insider Jonathan Jones.

— Buffalo Bills (@BuffaloBills) January 13, 2024 According to Weather.com, Buffalo is under a winter storm warning from 10 a.m. Saturday until 7 a.m. Monday morning. Heavy lake effect snow and strong winds are expected this weekend, while snow accumulations in the area could range from 1 to 3 feet. The Bills even previously asked for help to shovel snow in Highmark Stadium through the night so it could be ready for Sunday afternoon.

The last time an NFL playoff game was moved came in 2016, when Steelers vs. Chiefs in Kansas City was moved back from 1:05 ET to 8:20 ET due to an ice storm, per ESPN. While the NFL world does lose a Sunday playoff tripleheader with this rescheduling, it does mean we now get a Monday doubleheader, with Steelers-Bills kicking off at 4:30 p.m. ET, while the Philadelphia Eagles play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 8:15 p.m. ET.

Well, there’s also such a thing as abuse of discretion. I just think women in power tend to choose draconian measures over better-considered choices.

No need to continue explaining your taliban like approach to women, point received.

But the whole shoveling sh*t against the tide comment is incredibly dense considering your position regarding women and what tasks they’re happiest performing.

Or maybe she’d rather not have a repeat of this:

47 people died. Not a bad thing to avoid.

Tyranny and dictatorship always use fear of danger, death, etc. to justify their draconian measures.

FREEDOM OVER FEAR!!!

Dude. A travel ban is not draconian measures. They’re actually pretty common during bad weather. You’re just sounding like an ass now.

Your argument isn’t with me, fuzz, but with God and his Word, the New Testament containing repeated commands to women to be keepers of the home and submissive as to the Lord to the man.

Why? Because God hates women? The measure of his love for women is Jesus, the Son of God, dying for women. He knows what makes them happy because he MADE women.

But Women have taken the bait of Satan as did Eve in the garden, confusing intrinsic HIGH VALUE (worth the Son of God) with assigned ROLE. Too many women have bought the lie that their VALUE is based on their ROLE (performance-based value). A lie straight from the pit of hell.

Well God isn’t currently posting obnoxious stuff right now so I’m responding to one of his apparent self appointed earthly spokesmen, er spokesperson.

That’s a little misleading, ESPN was the first cable only network to broadcast NFL games, that started in 1987, local markets continued to be able to watch the games live over the from local affiliates, without getting cable.

The other difference is by 1987 the vast majority of the country had cable or access to cable type packages thru satellite dishes, my family live way out in the country and never was going to get cable TV, they had a huge 6-ft dish and got everything it.

But that was only in the local markets. So 99% of the country could only see the games on cable.

A far higher percentage of the country now has access to the internet now than had cable in 1987. Heck I remember we got cable in 86, we moved from a part of Tucson it hadn’t rolled out to yet, to a part that had gotten it earlier (not why we moved, but a nice bonus). Unless you’re mountain climbing you can internet everywhere in America right now, and if you paid for the good climbing package you can probably get the internet there too.

Streaming, as in a ROKU stick plugged into the HDMI port

Here’s the other big difference, how many streaming services are you looking at in order to get the NFL, right now one which you may not have previously subscribed to, in 1987 if you had cable you most likely had ESPN and could watch that cable the other 364 days of the year for any number of shows

Because of the exclusivity of these streaming services you need multiple streaming services in order to get what a normal cable service provided

The other thing is unless you have a smart TV you need additional hardware to get the streaming service running and smart TVs are not universal

Except of course that in order to get ESPN you had to subscribe to the cable PACKAGE. So you were subscribing to dozens of channels to get ESPN. And that was reflected in your cable bill, as all those channels charged your cable company on a per subscriber basis, and those costs went on to you. Sure it was only 1 monthly check but functionally you were subscribed to all those channels.

With streaming we finally have the a la carte people craved for so long. If you only want 1 service you only get 1 service, and pay accordingly.

I’m pretty sure my local NBC channel charges Cox more per subscriber (which of course Cox passes on to me) than I’m paying them for Peacock. I know for a fact that ESPN charges Cox more than I pay for the all 3 Mouse package. Honestly a quick perusal of my cable bill says I’d be better off if EVERYTHING I watch went to stream and I could cancel cable.

As for additional hardware, Roku sticks are like 30 bucks. Or your computer, or your phone, you don’t even need a TV all. And smart TVs are almost universal at this point, because try buy a TV that isn’t.

I remember when my Grandmother got cable TV in the early to mid-70s, the town she was in had maybe 700 people living there, in North Central, Florida, she was only able to get 2 channels with her antenna and that was on a good day, the nearest city was Gainesville, Fl which only had a PBS station affiliated with the UF, the nearest city with major network TV was Jacksonville and that was 75 miles away, she only had a Black and White TV, when she got cable it was like magic, a ton of channels with clear reception.

They’re hundreds of small cities all over America that couldn’t get quality TV until cable came along, the same is still true for today internet services unless they have a satellite-based service.

Baring a physical obstruction, there is no place in the USA that can’t get cable or satellite TV.

People who want a la carte TV will love it until they get it, to get a comparable package no single streaming service has everything, there is a reason all of them are barely surviving or have folded, for a lot of people cable or satellite TV is far easier to operate and not that much more money when all the streaming services are added together.

A reasonably tech savvy person has no issue with streaming services, but a sizeable percentage of people just want to turn on the TV and get a list of what’s on and pay for it on a single monthly bill.

The NFL exclusively streaming an important game, in the short run means more money, in the long term it causes fewer people to watch the games, over time that erodes the interest in the games.

Yes NOW there’s no place that can’t get cable. Back when the NFL first signed on to ESPN 1/3 the city I live didn’t have cable yet. Cox was working on it.

Meanwhile of course every place you can get cable you can get the internet. So everybody can get streaming.

Yeah but the don’t have to have everything. They just have to have what you watch. Let’s face it, nobody watches more than a dozen of their available channels, so there’s a good 80 channels that could disappear from my world tomorrow and I wouldn’t even notice. But you also have to keep in mind that we live in a media conglomerate world, most cable channels are run by 5 media companies. Sign on to any of those streaming services and you get all of them. Peacock gives me the whole freaking slate of NBC/Universal channels, including Syfy and Telemundo, and Hallmark and whole bunch of other channels in that pile I never watch.

And you don’t have to actually be at all tech savvy. Amazon sublets pretty much everybody. I’ve got my Paramount, Qello (concerts and music related), and Curiosity (documentaries) all through Amazon. 3 nice things about that is:
Amazon knows about services I don’t
Amazon runs various free trial and short term sale deals so if you’re paying attention you can surgical strike a service, like I did in July, 1 week free trial of Max and watched all the stuff there I was interested in
You get it all in one place so it’s easier to navigate, I’ve watched shows without knowing which service they were on, Amazon put them in the “you might like” and I did, boom

NFL letting NBC, who pays for that package, show the game where they want to, which is part of the deal, is moving to the future. Streaming is the future. Over the air is dying.

Streaming is already dying back to a handful of companies which will end up cost as much or more than cable/satellite

Streaming IMO will supplement not replace cable or satellite service, you are tech savvy but millions are not, until the streaming services get as user friendly as cable/satellite it certainly won’t replace them.

The streaming industry will shake out a lot of companies when that happens the cost will go up because very few are profitable.
