Where are Dr. Fauci’s actual words? What did he really say? All I can see is some spin created by those who, for whatever reason, have a vested interest in spreading misinformation. And they went to work quickly, since apparently the transcripts are not publicly available. Will they issue corrections once the transcripts become public? I doubt it.

Rand Paul is a scumbag who rejects all of the science. He’s no hero. He should know better, but he is probably doing this because he believes that all conservatives believe the anti-science malarky that charlatans have been peddling since before the WHO even declared a pandemic.

What were his actual words? What did he really say?
First, I will point out that there is a huge difference between "lab leak" and the deliberate engineering and release of a virus. A lab leak is actually possible; people can and do make mistakes in the lab which cause them to get infected with the pathogens they are studying. Deliberately engineering and releasing a virus that would do exactly what its creators intend is still in the realm of science fiction. Our understanding of the human body and of the fine details of viral infection are far too limited for that to be possible.
As for the origins of Covid, a lab leak can be included in the possibilities. The Wuhan laboratory has been studying bat coronaviruses for years, so there is a small chance that a researcher could have gotten infected by a virus in the lab. However, scientific investigations have shown that this is not the case. The virus jumped into humans at the Huanan Seafood market, a fact which has been demonstrated through several routes of investigation.
But testifying that the lab leak idea was a credible hypothesis (one which did not hold up under further investigation) is not the same as "admitting" that it is currently a credible idea. Once a hypothesis fails to stand up to scientific scrutiny, scientists reject it and move on to something else. Conspiracy theorists, on the other hand, won't drop it no matter how much evidence exists showing otherwise.

No, it was NOT a leak. The leak is a -fallback- position from when the initial bat soup wet-market lie fell apart. It was a deliberate release.
In the late summer and fall of 2019 massive protests started in Wuhan over several issues, one being very poor air quality. The protests spread to Hong Kong. They were increasingly violent and a HK cop shot a protester dead.
It was threatening to spread into the mainland PRC. There were discussions about the Chinese Army even rolling in.
But the Tiennamen Square solution was a non-started in the modern world. In 1989, the world could fulminate all it wanted about the massacre, but with no global ties, China could and did flip the world the finger.
In 2019, a repeat of that mass murder would severely impact their economy when the world responded.
The other threat out there was Trump and his tariffs.
So they released an average variant of SARs, hyped it up as the most lethal menace since the black death. It didn’t need to be super deadly, just enough to spread easily and kill people who got ventilated and denied drugs.
They released videos of people falling dead in the street, and the guys in white suits fumigating entire cities.
The effect? Everyone in China was locked in their apartment with severe punishment for going out. Killed those protests right away and they never reoccurred.
In collusion with the party in DC, they realized it was a great tool for stopping Trump.
Yes, it was deliberately released. To stop the rapidly spreading protests in China, and then to stop Trump.
“Leak” is a fallback story. When they could no longer defend the wet market, they couldn’t exactly admit it was deliberate, could they? THAT is where the “leak theory” came from and why Fauci so freely embraces it now.
