The lawsuit alleges the dentist provided an unsafe dosage of anesthesia and falsified medical records to cover it up.
A patient is suing her Eden Prairie dentist after he performed eight dental crowns, four root canals and 20 fillings in a single visit, according to a newly-filed malpractice lawsuit.
Kathleen Wilson of Minneapolis says she received negligent treatment from Dr. Kevin Molldrem, of Molldrem Family Dentistry, in July 2020, that caused significant injuries. Her civil action, filed ahead of the holiday weekend in Hennepin County District Court, accuses Molldrem of grossly exceeding the safe dosage of anesthesia and falsifying medical records to show he didn't give Wilson an unsafe dosage.
It includes a scathing expert opinion from a Florida dentist contending that so much dental work in a single visit is "impossible to achieve if … done properly."
Molldrem did not respond to messages seeking a response to the accusations. He was served a summons in person at his office at 800 Prairie Center Drive on Dec. 20. Wilson's attorney, Nathaniel Weimer with the Minneapolis personal injury law firm Tewksbury & Kerfeld, also didn't respond to requests for comment.

He sounds like my brothers um doctor 8 months with stomach pain had Endoscope CT scan colonoscopy and still has pain but they never run out of pills and tests.

How long ago? I might give it a little more time before going with an extraction. Mine hurt for several weeks when chewing, but it eventually “calmed down”.

That’s like, $25k in anesthesia alone - an anesthesiologist legally has to be present.

I doubt the patient had insurance. The article mentions “she was treated For several months in 2022 she was treated at the University of Minnesota Dental School “’for repair and replacement of many of her restorations in an attempt to stabilize her mouth.’ “
Dental schools usually work on non paying patients are charge based on a sliding scale.
I grew up in a military family, and we had military dentists for a good part of that time (overseas)
Nothing personal here, but I hated the dentist. It was always exceedingly painful getting my teeth drilled, and I only found out a few years ago why. I apparently have unusual nerve structure in my mouth. I was getting a crown done, and the new dentist I was seeing gave me novocaine, and continued prepping for a while before beginning.
When he began grinding down the tooth, it hurt like hell. He stopped gave me another shot, and let it set before continuing. It still hurt, and he gave me another one.
When it still hurt, he silently pondered me, then said I can only give you a little more, let’s try this and gave me another shot, and the shot stung pretty good. But it killed ALL sensation, and having that crown was the pleasantest dental experience I had ever had.
He told me that my nerves didn’t follow the usual path, and he had to put the novocaine in the right place. Since then, I have never dreaded the dentist, and had multiple crowns and even an implant, where the most unpleasant thing was the grinding and crunching sound of the ratchet as he screwed a post into my mandible!
All those years, I thought I was just a wimp with a low tolerance for pain, but...I think I was getting drilled without novocaine!
When I was in the Navy, I was notified one day sometime before we deployed that I was to report to the base dentists to have my wisdom teeth removed. This was in the mid-Seventies, and apparently, the Navy had a case where a sailor had to be medevaced off a ship due to his impacted wisdom teeth becoming infected. So they decided to just preemptively pull everyone’s wisdom teeth who looked like they were impacted. Mine were severely impacted on the lowers, and the uppers each protruded at a 45 degree angle outwards, so the inside of my cheeks were always getting lacerated.
You can imagine how much I dreaded this. And this was a military dentist, too, so I was inclined to be critical.
When I went over, they had a bunch of us sitting out in the hallway, and you could see into each room where guys were being worked on because there were no doors.
I had a clear view of one reclining sailor from the waist down, and I could see his legs twitching and jumping around as the dentist did his work. Finally, the dentist came out, and he had sweat on his face, and disappeared into another room. He came out with another dentist, and the two of them went back into the room where I could see the sailors legs on the exam chair.
For the next five minutes, as I watched this guy’s legs twitching and jumping accompanied by his guttural “argh! argh!”, and the low voices of the two dentists conversing, I began to have visions in my head of a knee on the chest and a pair of rusty pliers!
That worked on my brain so much I decided to simply bug out. I got up and left without telling anyone, and nobody ever called me on it. I deployed with everyone else and never head squat about it!
After I got out of the Navy, went through college and got married, I began having real trouble with my teeth. I went to an oral surgeon, they put me out, and when I woke up, all four of my wisdom teeth were gone!
Now, THAT’S how you do it! I still have all my wisdom teeth in an envelope in my dresser, and when I look at them, they sure are gnarly and twisted looking. I must have had terrible bad breath my whole life due to those things until they were removed!
side bar I went to the Dr and he said i had a bad heart. I said i wanted a second opinion. He said, ok, you’re ugly too.
three of four weeks. I’ll give it more time but if it doesn’t change I think I’ll have no better choice.
I went to the Dr and he gave me 6 months, “you can pay on your way out” I said I can’t pay now. He gave me another 6 months

Teeth that rotten should have just been pulled and give her a false set.
Coincidentally, this very same dentist's wife had recently been jailed for molesting boys and was awaiting trial. The dentist was reportedly standing by his wife. I told my friend to get a second opinion from my dentist, which he did, and my dentist said he didn't need all that work.

You better get that tooth xrayed there could be an infection lurking in there. If so it’ll get a hell of a lot worse.

I have zero basis for the following speculation. Just the old skeptical gut feeling.
1. The quantity of work suggests a long period of neglect.
2. That in turn suggests the patient might have lacked the funds for normal dental care on a timely basis.
3. If she needed the work but couldn’t pay the huge amount to do all this in more managable increments, perhaps the dentist agreed to do the work at a major discount if done all at once.
4. There is no way the dentist did all these procedures without the patient’s prior agreement.
5. So after the work was performed, and was unpleasant (whodathunkit?), she “realized” she lacked the funds to pay at all, so she cooked up a lawsuit to shake him down as his reward for helping her.
Holy Cow, how much was the bill?
I had a crown replaced earlier this year. There was some decay under the crown, so the crown had to be removed to get to the decay. After filling the cavity, the crown was replaced in about 45 minutes. The dentist scanned the tooth with the new filling and fabricated a crown onsite. It is hard to fathom how more than 1 tooth could be done in a day.
It has ben quite awhile since I've had a root canal, but I would question crowning a root canal on the same day. The last time I had a root canal, the endodontist put a temporary filling in and had me return a few weeks later to check for an infection. If everything was cool, I released to the dentist for the crown..
