A Russian television serial exploring the tragedy wrought by brutal teenage street gangs fighting for survival, money and love in the last years of the crumbling Soviet Union has become a sensation in Russia.

The series – “A hoodlum’s promise – blood on the asphalt” – shows the savagery of the gangs which carved up the Russian city of Kazan in 1989 as the reforms of Mikhail Gorbachev gyrated the Soviet Union towards its 1991 demise.

In the Kazan badlands, many of the teenagers tried to make sense of their Soviet world turned upside down by flocking to the gangs where they found a kind of extended family offering security, money, adventure and death.

The film holds back little: three young men – Andrei, Marat and Vladimir – grapple with extreme violence and see their dreams ripped apart by murder, rape, suicide, madness and ultimately by themselves.

To your point, the Commie Pinko Fags will not never ever forgive Russia for what happened to their beloved Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

There is a lot of propaganda in the world.

Why did Japan bomb Pearl Harbor? Because at that time the US was the Saudi Arabia of the world, exporting far more oil than was consumed domestically. FDR cut off Japan. Like the US in the 1970s, they decided a foreign country would not dictate their policies. Their response (somewhat similar to the 1970s oil embargos) was to attack the US fleet that might interdict their shipping oil from Indonesia.

Why did the Soviet Union collapse? Because of banking. Their central bank at that time was constrained from creating money unless it was in line with the Interior Ministry’s Five Year plan. They had no ability to do Quantitative Ease, because they forbid it to themselves. If they had simply printed all the money they wanted to, there would still be a Soviet Union.

Make no mistake in this. Bernanke knew this. He flooded 10s of Trillions since 2009. The Russians made the mistake of treating money like it should be logical and arithmetically correct. Bernanke knew it was all whimsical. All he had to do was not talk about it publicly. In his famous 60 Minutes interview, he was asked:

“People say you are just printing money from thin air. How do you respond to this?”

Reply: “I’m just buying bonds. Some are mortgage bonds. Some are government bonds. But all I’m doing is buying bonds.”

The reporter never (EVER) followed up with the question — Where do you get the money to buy those bonds?

Anyway, that is why the Soviets fell. It will never happen again. Russia has an unrestrained central bank now and does not face $34 Trillion in debt.

This has been going on for decades; read ‘Children of the Arbat’ for more details on youth gangster ism in Russia/USSR

Good .gif.

The ugly part of all this is buried. I am a former USAF officer. I think of things military. Don’t care what color hat people wear.

The US Army awarded a contract in 2021 to make 1 million pounds of TNT. It would take an entire year to do that, and the contract allowed the contractor leeway if “there were a scarcity of the chemical materials” needed for Tri Nitro Toluene.

An artillery shell weighs about 95 pounds. So that 1 million pounds of TNT is about 10,500 shells.

That many shells are fired in Ukraine by both sides total in one month.

That big Army contract would provide 1 month of what is apparently now modern warfare. And they were careful to note that 1 million pounds might not be possible in 1 year.

Point being, even if you print all the money you want, it doesn’t solve a problem of scarcity. If there is scarcity, you can’t buy your way out of it.

“ There is a lot of propaganda in the world.”

You understate it.

There is almost nothing in the world except propaganda.

This is correct.

Printing money can solve a scarcity of dollars.

But printing money cannot solve a scarcity of artillery shells.

I have to watch ‘The Wire’ sometime. Was it violent?

It was about drug dealing gangs in Baltimore. Some violence is unavoidable, but they don't draw it out.

That’s for the update but Ukrainian cities being erased by invading Russian Nazis isn’t breaking news. It’s been going on for years.

The lost time, the glory days of the USSR depicted in a TV film series. The good old days every red-blooded Russian longs for, as seen by the comments above.
