The ugly part of all this is buried. I am a former USAF officer. I think of things military. Don’t care what color hat people wear.
The US Army awarded a contract in 2021 to make 1 million pounds of TNT. It would take an entire year to do that, and the contract allowed the contractor leeway if “there were a scarcity of the chemical materials” needed for Tri Nitro Toluene.
An artillery shell weighs about 95 pounds. So that 1 million pounds of TNT is about 10,500 shells.
That many shells are fired in Ukraine by both sides total in one month.
That big Army contract would provide 1 month of what is apparently now modern warfare. And they were careful to note that 1 million pounds might not be possible in 1 year.
Point being, even if you print all the money you want, it doesn’t solve a problem of scarcity. If there is scarcity, you can’t buy your way out of it.
