Will Your Sons and Daughters Fight in Central Europe? COMMENTARY By Shea Bradley-FarrellDecember 21, 2023 Will Your Sons and Daughters Fight in Central Europe?AP Who bears the responsibility for the war in Ukraine? According to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, members of U.S. Congress, and even U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, it is the American people.
Recently, Secretary Austin told America that if Congress fails to pass another $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, it will “most likely” result in American troops fighting in Europe. The additional aid to Ukraine has been stalled by members of Congress who want assurances that our own U.S. southern border will be protected first. According to the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. has already provided Ukraine with our largest foreign assistance package in Europe since the Marshall Plan at the end of World War II.
Congress is right (and long overdue) to fight to secure our own border, yet Zelensky had the audacity to warn the American people that our “unresolved issues on Capitol Hill” inspire Putin to continue the war. How dare he? The U.S. is by far the largest donor of money and weapons to his country, and much like U.K. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, counseling Zelensky in the wisdom of “gratitude,” told him – we are not Zelensky’s “Amazon delivery service.”
Why should America be the main bearer of this war? As often as Mike Pence, Niki Haley, and other war hawks in D.C. ambiguously claim that Putin’s next move is to take over NATO countries, don’t believe it. Putin cannot consolidate a victory in four eastern Ukrainian provinces – how could he possibly launch an armored assault through the fabled Fulda Gap? It is preposterous.
In addition, Putin does not want to turn 31 (NATO) countries against him.

Russia is circa 145 million. Europe is circa 700 million, with the EU portion about 450 million. These numbers alone argue clearly for the "it is preposterous" conclusion, from the article as from American "war hawks" and their European counterparts, that "taking over" European nations is even remotely possible. Logistically impossible. Demographically impossible. Strategically impossible. But a damn fine good "domino theory" narrative to be trotted out. Again.
There’s no sense in throwing good money after bad. And it’s ridiculous to say Putin will go beyond Ukraine when he can barely deal with what he’s got now. End the Dem’s money laundering scheme now.
“never weaned themselves from the US $$$.”
The US was at its relative peak to the rest of the world in 1945.
It was only during the 1970s that the US economy started going downhill.
In the early 1980s it was still possible to buy US-made garments.
THE EVIL MARK OF BIDEN REARS ITS UGLY HEAD:
“Support the latest $60 billion DemocRAT money-laundering
scheme in Ukraine or your children will fight in WW 111.”
I know what you mean. Sometimes a "gosh darn it" or a "dadgummit" just doesn't convey your feelings adequately.
Mine won’t and I hope no one’s American child does.
Europe needs to defend itself not count on America to save their sorry behinds.
Glad I don’t have any.
This war is like WWI, just bloody and destructive.
As for territory, Germany lost some in the southwest and quite a bit in what is now Poland:
I’ve been stating it for more than a year on this forum. It’s American treasure now, is it going to be the blood of American Marines later? Enough.
Not my flag.
Not my country.
Not my war.
Putin hasn’t even been able to win a war in nearly two years against a poor country composed of mainly wheat farmers.
No. I will pay for family members to leave the country if a draft is instituted.
“Putin hasn’t even been able to win a war in nearly two years against a poor country composed of mainly wheat farmers.”
We werent able to win a war against a bunch of ragtag guerrillas in ‘Nam and we were there for 13 years.
We couldn’t even win in Afghanistan.
Will our sons and daughters fight in Europe AGAIN??? That is certainly what the little man of Ukraine wants, America to not only; fund his war with Russia; but also, fight it for him.
The fact that we aren’t winning any of these wars is perhaps a hint that maybe we shouldn’t be fighting them - especially as they costs trillions of dollars each.
Very true sir.
I would love to see the official US War games results. Apparently they show the US losing to China if we take them on over Taiwan. What is the result if we commit forces to Europe against Putin, and then the Chinese decide that’s a great time to take Taiwan?
Obviously we still lose to China, but how badly? Do they occupy Guam? Hawaii, too?
I foresee the possibilty of US forces tied down in Europe, with China occupying Guam and Hawaii and threatening the West Coast if we don’t surrender unconditionally to China and Russia. Does Russia take back Alaska?
Hard to guess what a DemocRat administration would do. I really would love to see the official war game results. But as bad as it would be, having our sons and daughters fighting in Europe is not the worst possible outcome.
If American troops do fight in Eastern Europe it will be for “freedom” and to “protect democracy”.
I don’t anticipate American ground forces fighting in China. I doubt we will assist Taiwan beyond supplying them with weapons. The neocons just want an excuse to enact a trade embargo against China to weaken their economy, similar to how we weakened Russia militarily using Ukraine as a proxy. Although using Taiwan as a proxy might not be in the cards as the Taiwanese are nowhere near as stupid as the Ukrainians and they may very well balk at playing that role for us.
Taiwan is already evenly divided between those who are willing to accept a closer relationship with China verses those who don’t. I guess we’ll find out after their January elections as to what direction this is heading.
Just after the WW2 Tehran Conference, Stalin said to a journalist, (roughly translated): "It's high time the Slavic race was in charge of Europe.".
