The new Mercedes-AMG GT 55 Coupe may not be the hottest version of the AMG coupe that rivals the Porsche 911 (that honor goes to the GT 63), but it's still a potent and gorgeously styled sports coupe. The 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 doles out 469 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque in this application, enough for a 3.8-second 0-60 sprint. The character of the V8 should once again separate the GT from its competitors. Other changes for this generation of the GT 55 include a more practical 2+2 seating layout and the latest MBUX infotainment system. The lavish interior mirrors the SL's, which is no bad thing. Is the GT 55 the pick of the bunch or should you spend more on the 63?

To be purchased and driven by those too old to use.
They will creep around like 911s, might as well be Priaps drivers.
He said he wouldn't recommend Mercs or BMW's lately. Many problems, particularly with trannies.
“ Many problems, particularly with trannies.”
Yea no kidding, those trannies are really running amuck!
Class envy.
It looks OK although it’s not “quite right” as far as I’m concerned. There is something besides nostalgia that is missing in the new Mercedes but was present in spades in the mid-50’s 300 SL Gullwing Coupe.
I’ll take a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Roadster 4-Speed Convertible, but they are as expensive :(
I’d like to have an alloy Gullwing Coupe but ....
I spent mine buying a second home in Arizona. No need for ego baubles.
My dentist(who owns a 190SL) said the same thing when I inquired about early 2000’s SL 500s & 550s.
His dad actually bought the 190 SL brand new in 1967. He kept it for years and eventually sold it to a friend. His son(my current dentist) bought it from that friend. So, he has all the records on the car from the time it came from Germany.
He advised me IF I wanted to buy an SL to purchase a 1980s version because they were still all analog.
Great cars. Not as classic as the earlier models but still very nice...particularly considering the price.
17 mpg!
By a 911 and actually drive it like it’s meant to be driven. I’ve had Mercedez, worst car I ever owned, three BMW’s and now we have a Porsche SUV and the 911. It’s 10 years old and every bit of fun to drive as when new. Tracked it at Watkins Glen also for the experience. You need to do that once just to understand how good the car is designed and easy to drive fast.

There are a few 5-speeds...a bit more $$$
“17 mpg!”
Our ‘71 300SEL 6.3 got 11 MPG and had less HP.
It did blow the doors off of a Boss 409 once...
Gorgous styling...not a fan of the color
Nice car with only 100 can-bus modules to fail.
Reminds me of the Jaguar “F”?? type Budget gave me instead of the compact.
Damn thing took me 5 or more minutes to get familiarized.
Goofy side mirrors on motors, dash comes up on motors, visibility was the pits. Weird shifter and on...
Nervous as hell getting out of the multi story rental garage.
No way would i buy such a electrified gee-whiz ego machine. Rather buy a vintage 911 of some heritage. Meant for drivers rather than pimps.
This is IMHO the best one currently available on EBAY:
My favorite 911, I think around 1972, Lime Green. http://www.356-911.com/modelinfo/911colours/chartrusegreen73500.jpg
