My dentist(who owns a 190SL) said the same thing when I inquired about early 2000’s SL 500s & 550s.

His dad actually bought the 190 SL brand new in 1967. He kept it for years and eventually sold it to a friend. His son(my current dentist) bought it from that friend. So, he has all the records on the car from the time it came from Germany.

He advised me IF I wanted to buy an SL to purchase a 1980s version because they were still all analog.

The 1980 450SLs are still reasonably priced. $10-15K range if lucky.

Great cars. Not as classic as the earlier models but still very nice...particularly considering the price.
