That and rather tone deaf. If he was the dogs’ owner that will sound great in court.

The huge & frequent death and mauling record of those dogs requires that they be exterminated...

Pit Bulls need to be understood. Sometimes something small like a wink can set them off . We must try to understand them(sarc)

Fault implies blame. Someone consciously conditioned these dogs to behave this way, to somehow learn this kind of response is an acceptable one and not out of the realm of normalcy.

Those stupid dogs have brought down the literal quality of peoples lives. People like me who can’t even get exercise and enjoyment from a simple walk in the mornings. Angry that these potential killers are allowed to be owned by any old Joe and put everyone else at risk! This poor lady. Smfh.

My local pet shelter/adoption facility has 15 dogs described as pit mix, stafforshire terrier, bully, or terrier, and the last isn’t Jack Russell. Also 4 not pit or other terrier, 2 mixes that look part pit to me but not so described, and one mastiff which is a formidable dog and often bred to pits fora size increase. So at least 80% pit or close cousin in an upscale area, not ghetto in the least. Some woman was walking a pit down the street and it looked at me in a bad way.

There was a mail carrier killed in Florida by five pits. The dogs had attacked people before. The owner tried to surrender them multiple times, the county wouldn’t take them. No kill shelter. He strengthened the fence. He should have put them down himself but maybe he loved them.

I don’t think pits should be taken from people’s homes and killed, but they should be spayed and neutered. And any surrendered pits should be euthanized not adopted.

They used to be about 1% of the dog population, now they are at least 10%.

The first breeder of American pits? His dogs killed his small nephew. He kept breeding them.

It’s not all conditioning, the potential to snap is innate.

Good, careful owners, high quality training, sweet dogs. Andsometimes they go off. Like the family dogs who killed the two small children in Tennessee, savaged the mother when shelay over her babies. The ones in Canada who tore a quiet calm child out of his sister’s arms, people they knew very well. Conscientious owners who thought good training and good treatment would make good dogs.

Put the dogs down. I’d be fine if they put the dog owners down too.

I have seen them there. Another breed, Rhodesian ridgeback is also popular as they can be dang vicious. Much more so than dobes or shepherds though I choose not to find out.

I know its not ALL conditioning. I didnt say that.

Its a combination in many cases. But theres a reason why they pick these dogs to condition this way. Theres a genetic/breed component to factor in.

Prayers for Brittany Skoland.

My friend was out walking her Yorkie, a pit-bull came running up to her and my friend picked up her dog, but the pit-bull killed her dog right in her arms.

So sad.

A few years ago we had a female pit bull and a female beagle in our household. It was the beagle that "went red" and was quite dangerous. She had to be put down.

The pit, on the other hand, was the sweetest dog ever. However, that was just my limited experience.

SIDENOTE: When the pit and the beagle would play-fight, the beagle would win as often as the pit. Those short legs gave her a quickness that the pit couldn't match.

I hear that a lot. I’m sure it will be real comforting to Brittany that it was the owner’s fault, not the dog’s.

I’ve known a few pit bulls and they have all been fine and very loveable and cuddly. Was always aware and hoping they would never snap when I or my family was around. The big thing for me is the jaw/bite strength of them. It is amazing the amount of PSI they can develop compared to most other dogs.

Pit: 250 to 330 psi
Beagle: 130 to 150 psi

The same thing happened to my friends who were walking their dachshund, but luckily their dog survived, after $1,000 in vet bills. It was totally unprovoked.

They should be treated like coyotes, bobcats, lynxes or wolverines--too dangerous to be allowed to be kept as pets.

I agree. If you have the skills to handle them. Then you can keep them. I know I don't have the skills to keep them as "pets".

I’d be willing to try pit bull meat.
