The huge & frequent death and mauling record of those dogs requires that they be exterminated...

My local pet shelter/adoption facility has 15 dogs described as pit mix, stafforshire terrier, bully, or terrier, and the last isn’t Jack Russell. Also 4 not pit or other terrier, 2 mixes that look part pit to me but not so described, and one mastiff which is a formidable dog and often bred to pits fora size increase. So at least 80% pit or close cousin in an upscale area, not ghetto in the least. Some woman was walking a pit down the street and it looked at me in a bad way.

There was a mail carrier killed in Florida by five pits. The dogs had attacked people before. The owner tried to surrender them multiple times, the county wouldn’t take them. No kill shelter. He strengthened the fence. He should have put them down himself but maybe he loved them.

I don’t think pits should be taken from people’s homes and killed, but they should be spayed and neutered. And any surrendered pits should be euthanized not adopted.

They used to be about 1% of the dog population, now they are at least 10%.

The first breeder of American pits? His dogs killed his small nephew. He kept breeding them.
