An "extremely venomous" two-meter-long green mamba snake is on the loose in the Netherlands, police said Tuesday, warning residents to stay indoors and under no circumstances attempt to ensnare the serpent.

This snake is not just dangerous. It is one of the most dangerous snakes in the world; and it's Africa's most dangerous, and can be set apart from other venomous snakes e.g. You can walk away from most all snakes, but not this one. It's been clocked at over 12 mph, and regardless of what the article says, it has been known to be very aggressive at times. It will come after you if annoyed or startled instead of retreating like most other snakes. The green mamba, as opposed to the black mamba, however has been known to be somewhat more shy. I wouldn't count on it.
Its venom is not only extremely potent, it is also fast acting. Depending upon where it may bite you, you may not even have time to seek medical attention or last rights. In fact, if untreated the death rate from a mamba bite is 100%.
However, many non venomous snakes which cannot upset the ecology can make great pets.
FYI: Many years ago, I was studying to be a herpetologist, mainly because cobra venom was selling for over $75,000/oz. I was advised to stay away from mambas.
Tilburg is in extreme south of Netherlands almost on border with Belgium.

True. I think they’re typically arboreal, but life adapts to circumstance.
Mambas are one snake you don’t wanna mess with- they are very fast for a snake, and will pursue someone trying to mess with em. And they are huge.
Funny though that a “shelter inplace” suggestion has been given when noone will die from the snake most likely, but in Chicago, odds are pretty high that feral 2 legged animals will shoot and kill a dozen or so folks in a week or so. Officials who handle,snakes will likely track and find the snake, but officials who govern Chicago can’t seem to track and apprehend and end up convicting lowlifes with vast criminal records
Bull snakes thoug are awesome- i beleive that they eat poisonous snakes. I agree they creep a person out, but they really do help,keep poisonous,snakes under control- they usually aren’t aggressive towards people too- I can abide them more than poisonous snakes.
They are also adept at quickly slithering ip a stick or a hoe handle. They will be on you before You can react.
I worked for a famous field herpetologist many years ago.
There was a story of a goat keeper who walked his herd under a single tree for the shade, and a mamba was said to have attacked every goat striking rapidly as they approached. Not sure if the story was true or not, but if so, they are not a snake you wanna be around

A friend of my brother collects venomous snakes and he said that a mamba would be a crown to his collection.
He is the scion of a successful family and would buy one if he could locate one for sale.
I no longer drive down the street where he lives and avoid his neighborhood whenever possible.

Here in Illinois, we are overrun with illegals imported by idiot progressives hoping to change voting patterns.
I guess the Netherlands may also have the same problem.
