Thanksgiving is one of our most direct, maybe least commercialized holidays, that focuses on reflection and family and good food. Who we share it with, where, and the day’s menu has changed over the years, but maybe the more that it changes, the more it’s the same.
Bless you. 1st Place Year 2023 FR Thanksgiving Day & Christmas Day Dinners Award.
Most of our relatives live too far away to get together with, and my wife and I are childless baby boomers. So, we are having two childless cousins as dinner guests, and we got a prepared Thanksgiving dinner from the Cracker Barrel.
I forgot to mention that before and after dinner, I will be enjoying some fine, aged tobacco in a hand carved meerschaum pipe.
Thank you for the wonderful story!

“ditching the useless green bean casserole.”
You wouldn’t say that if you had my GBC. None of that cream of mushroom soup and fried onions on top crap.
Happy Thanksgiving all.
Rib eye with family member. He cooked. I am recovering.
Recipe?
Perfect story.
Loved every minute of reading it.
My chef brother told me many years too late, don’t mess with Thanksgiving dinner. Everyone expects Grandma’s menu.
I imagine he was the voice of experience.
That looks like a good one to take to someone else’s house if there will be children present.
That is a great idea......kids will love it......and bringing food is always appreciated.
And your friends will have a wonderful time cleaning caramel sauce off of every surface afterward. Can’t miss!
Just me, turkey, coleslaw stuffing inside turkey, smashed taters. Called my out of town family this morning.
We have a linen tablecloth that everyone signs in sharpie marker. It’s a lovely reminder of the people that are no longer with us. The cloth goes back very far in time.
Great leftover idea.
