I performed what appeared to be a normal reboot for a normal upgrade. Now I am blocked by the need for a bitlocker password. I do not recall ever messing with bitlocker. Is there a flowchart? I got as far as a system32 Cmv.exe prompt (not very far). Thanks!
likely leads to the nearest trash can ...
Did you back your system up before the upgrade?
There are ways to retrieve this for your specific machine... I can’t give you much more than that right now, but an internet search helped me out. I think it has to do with signing into to a microsoft account and looking up the mac address of the machine.
I do want to find a way to disable this ‘security’ mechanism, though.
2 days ago it upgraded without my permission but everything is ok. I booted up and got the “wait while upgrade” message. Every time it does that I tell my wife I almost had to buy a new laptop. Never give up hope!
I bought a Dell refurbished Laptop from Dell installed windows 11 created an outlook email to make a Microsoft account and the third time I logged in Microsoft locked the account for suspicious activity ,LOL Microsoft is nuts
Yes, iirc something like https://asm.ms.
However coming at me unexpectedly, the questions I have are
1. Is this a spoof site from a virus I inadvertently picked up?
2. Why do I even have to do this if I have no recollection of requesting c drive encryption in the first place?
3. Why is this not somehow automated?
4. Why is there no mindless flowchart procedure for recovery which involves bitlocker?
Write down the key number if you do find it- keep it in safe place incase it happens again in future
Finding your BitLocker recovery key in Windows
Hmmm…. I am shocked to discover that I was able to get something that seems as if it might be a bitlocker key from this.
I happen to be in a foreign country at this moment, about to return home. I saved the key on my cell phone and I plan to continue to fiddle with it once I get back home.
For the record btw, I actually found two keys, one for each laptop I had purchased in the last 10 months. The first was a dell (replacing my HP which had self terminated). I figured that dell might be more reliable than HP. It lasted 4 months. The second and current laptop is a Lenovo (TW). It seems to be better built.
Cmv.exe -> Cmd.exe
Disable device encryption
It’s recommended to keep device encryption on for any systems that support it. However, you can prevent the automatic device encryption process by changing the following registry setting:
I found all your answers via Google and MS support.
I’m a software guy but have no interest in my PC’s Windows operating system. I’ll take my computer down to the computer shop where it bought it (Intrex) and have them do the upgrading, which I need to do, and maybe buy a new computer.
My son, who is a very successful computer whiz, did a favor for a friend. An install of Microsoft. He now has much more compassion for those of us using Microsoft. He could not believe the kinks, traps, unintelligible coding, and on and on he was assaulted by. After more than 2 hrs, his recommendation was that we all just go buy an Apple computer.
bkmk
ping to you
Are you using “upgrade” the same as update?
