Buddy of mine has a step lower multi caliber long range rifle. He can take out deer size target at 1650 yards — close to a mile. He says the scope optics and the spotter with his optics are what is critical to him. Without those two being dialed in it is useless for him
I would thoroughly enjoy talking to your friend about rifle telescopes, spotting scopes and exterior rifle cartridge ballistics. I’m a shooter and a software engineer who during the course of his career was able to be paid a little money studying that discipline. I wonder if it was a cold bore shot or if he had to walk it up. If it’s cold bore, then we even have to factor in barrel harmonics, pressure curve, barrel steel, Rockwell Hardness, what else? Let’s setup a Support Vector Machine, SVP, probably run the algorithmic equations under Linux. You know, just for fun. Optics and mounts are critical. Regards, kawhill
Have to know your DOPE and and and properly judge wind. PLUS your equipment needs to almost perfectly repeat itself time after time to have confidence in your DOPE and windage calls.
The rifle pictured gives me absolutely no confidence it is capable of repeatability.
