Microsoft Bing results (vanity)

I've been using Microsoft Bing for my search engine.

Lately, I've noticed that when I search Bing for certain topics, it seems to find, on the first results page websites I would not call "conservative". For example, I asked it to search for "Israel-Hamas war". Here's the results of the sources/websites it found listed in order.

The Guardian, CNN,NBC News, CNN, BBC, The Guardian, Aljazeera, AP News, AP News, AP News

Next I asked Bing to find information regarding "Donald Trump legal news". Here are the first-page results, again listed in order:

Bing.com news (This was a composite result listing the following websites): Washington Post, Yahoo News, Wonderwall on MSN, Newsweek, Yahoo, Huff Post,

Then the following, in order:

BBC, AP News, ABC News, CNN, NBC News, CNN, BBC, CNN, The Atlantic, The Guardian

Am I being overly suspicious?

Try putting the same searches into the Bing Chat to see what the AI returns.

Bada Bing...
Isn’t it a sign of paranoia to think that Microsoft would try to control your information...😎

This proves to me that AI stands for Artificial Insults to your Intelligence. If you think a computer can tell lies from truth you are kidding yourself.

Go to Bing and search for — white couples

Check the Image tab.
The results will be:
Black couples
Interracial couples
Almost no white couples — because, you know, you hardly ever see things like that.

Reasons like this are why I use Brave for searching.

I do, however, like Bing when doing searching related on Microsoft developer and database stuff.

“Am I being overly suspicious?”

Absolutely not, you are justified, the results speak for themselves. Just about all of them are doing this now. They are nothing but advertisement and propaganda vending machines.

Bing Chat made the following assertions about these media companies:

Thank you for your question. I have searched the web for the political leanings of the media services you listed, and I have found some sources that rate them based on their editorial positions, news reporting, and audience preferences. Here is a summary of what I found:

The Guardian: This is a British newspaper that has a reputation for being liberal and progressive in its coverage of politics, social issues, and international affairs. It is rated as left-center by AllSides, which means it leans slightly to the left but also covers a range of perspectives. It is also rated as left-center by Media Bias/Fact Check1, which means it has a history of favoring liberal causes and candidates.

CNN: This is an American cable news network that is known for its 24-hour breaking news coverage, opinion shows, and documentaries. It is rated as left-center by AllSides, which means it leans slightly to the left but also covers a range of perspectives. It is also rated as moderately left-biased by Media Bias/Fact Check1, which means it has editorial positions that consistently favor the left, while straight news reporting falls left-center through bias by omission.

NBC News: This is an American television network that produces news programs such as Today, Nightly News, Meet the Press, and Dateline NBC. It is rated as center by AllSides, which means it does not lean to either side of the political spectrum but tries to balance both sides fairly. It is also rated as center by Media Bias/Fact Check1, which means it has a history of covering both sides of the political spectrum without bias.

BBC: This is a British public service broadcaster that produces news programs such as BBC News at Ten, BBC Newsnight, and The World at One. It is rated as center-right by AllSides, which means it leans slightly to the right but also covers a range of perspectives. It is also rated as center-right by Media Bias/Fact Check1, which means it has editorial positions that favor conservative causes and candidates.

Aljazeera: This is an American-based international news network that operates in Arabic, English, French, Spanish, and other languages. It covers global news from a Middle Eastern perspective and often challenges the mainstream Western media narratives. It is rated as far-left by AllSides, which means it leans strongly to the left but also covers some conservative views. It is also rated as far-left by Media Bias/Fact Check1, which means it has editorial positions that consistently favor progressive causes and candidates.

AP News: This is an American news agency that provides breaking news stories to thousands of media outlets around the world. It does not have a specific political bias rating from AllSides or Media Bias/Fact Check because it relies on its journalists to report objectively without editorial influence.

Washington Post: This is an American newspaper that covers national and international news with a focus on politics, business, culture, sports, and opinion. It is rated as center-left by AllSides, which means it leans slightly to the left but also covers a range of perspectives. It is also rated as center-left by Media Bias/Fact Check1, which means it has editorial positions that favor liberal causes and candidates.

Yahoo News: This is an American online news platform that aggregates content from various sources such as Reuters, Associated Press, ABC News, CBS News, Fox News Channel (Fox), CNN (CNN), MSNBC (MSNBC), The New York Times (NYT), The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), etc. It does not have a specific political bias rating from AllSides or Media Bias/Fact Check because it relies on its sources to report objectively without editorial influence.

Wonderwall on MSN: This is an American online magazine website that features entertainment news such as celebrity gossip, fashion trends, showbiz drama etc., along with some original content such as quizzes, polls etc., from MSN.com (MSN). It does not have a specific political bias rating from AllSides or Media Bias/Fact Check because it relies on its editors to report objectively without editorial influence.

Newsweek: This is an American weekly magazine that covers current events, politics, business, culture, science, health, and more with an emphasis on analysis and commentary from experts and journalists It does not have a specific political bias rating from AllSides or Media Bias/Fact Check because it relies on its writers to report objectively without editorial influence It does have a slight lean towards liberalism according to AllSides’ ratings which means it favors liberal causes and candidates more than conservative ones.

You are on the right track.

The key to finding real information (instead of enemy propaganda) is to find the keywords the enemedia keeps using over and over again.

Then redo your search with a minus in front of the key words.

For example—if you want real information about illegal invaders use this approach:

immigration -migrant

Where do you want the results to come from? They’re all about data, if those are things people are clicking on they’ll move them up. If you want other stuff ask for it.

The main issue to me is that when the average person uses a search engine they usually, according to my research, check the first page of results and stop there. So it is my “opinion” that some of the search engines are biased left and show their results accordingly. Is one of the reasons for this to influence people regarding how they vote? I think so.

Absolutely NOT! You can just test several browsers and search engines and you will have different results depending on what you use.
I positively don’t use Google for anything other than if I want to know how to fix something.

Yes.

The results you display are because first there are far more non conservative news sources than conservative sources. The second is your own bias. By declaring sources that may be moderate but not purely conservative even more are on your list.

In my view, the purely conservative sites are often guilty of conservative opinion that isn’t really news.

A third is hard to swallow, but........ the left controls the news.

Try Bing, Google, DDG, the Brave search enging and others controlled by Big Tech and you will get one set of results....obviously highly biased and skewed toward institutional leftist sources.

Now try looking up the same thing in a search engine Big Tech does not control like Yandex.

Its eye opening how different the results are.
