A total of 10 championships while in the city of Oakland. Four each for the A's and the Warriors, and two for the Raiders.
Here in Pennsylvania I encounter the homeless in York County as well I even have a job cleaning outside that includes cleaning up after the homeless to some extent.
Back when I lived there in the late ‘90s, it was too dangerous to go to games.
Only a fool with a death wish would go now.
Much of Oakland is scary and dangerous, BUT this is still a stupid move. The Bay Area has a much larger population to support a team fanbase. And Oakland has really nice weather for baseball, and the fact is that the Coliseum site, with plenty of parking and freeway and BART access is such that fans can to a large extent parachute in and not really experience the worst of Oakland. Vegas has a relatively small population, and in the summer (i.e., baseball season) is ridiculously hot. Yeah, I guess they can do an air-conditioned indoor stadium or something, but that’s pretty lame.

At least the names of the cities are diverse: Greek name, half-Indian/half-Latin name, English name, Spanish name.
Las Vegas metro area has more than 2.3 million people, more than 5 metro areas which have a MLB team. And people keep moving to Nevada (for reasons beyond me).
That would be Californians who worked for the state of CA wanting to avoid CA state income taxes on their pensions.

Oakland has now lost all its major league teams.

Oakland Athletics from 1967 until present.
I do hope they will have an air-conditioned all indoor dome. Even construction crews (who start at or before 4 am) call it quitters in Las Vegas by noon in the summertime. The days get really brutal afterward.

Some of us remember the Philadelphia A’s, Washington Senators, Boston Braves, Chicago Cardinals, Baltimore Colts, St.Louis Browns, etc. But that was when America was still America.

WWII gets to be the culprit. Demographic change began in Oakland starting with the war when the Navy brought in workers for its ammunition depot. That set in motion a demographic change that led to Oakland today.
The 1940 census shows Oakland to be 95.3% “white”. 2.8% “negro”. 1.9% “other”. By 1990 the city was 32.5% white, 43.9% black, 23.6% other.
The Left routine says “demographics is destiny” but when anyone else agrees it’s “racism”. Either way the numbers are what they are, and so is once pleasant Oakland.

Of course the population is large. As the crow flies (flies over the bay) the Giants’ venue is less than 10
Miles away. Last time I was at the Coliseum 6 or 7 years ago, the parking lot was kissing cousins to not being paved, it was in such bad shape. I’ve done it in the past, but with crime in Oakland, I would take BART and use that pedestrian bridge to the Coliseum on a bet

They will. There’s plenty of money in Vegas to do things right. They have had a strategy to make the city an entertainment destination rather than just a gambling mecca. And there’s been a lot of out-migration from SoCal to the Vegas suburbs.
A company named Brightline is building a privately owned high speed rail line that will connect Vegas to Apple Valley in SoCal. This should increase the already strong connection between the regions.
The Raiders, I guess, have done reasonably well in terms of selling tickets in LV, but the NFL is such a different animal compared to MLB. Including pre- and post- seasons, how many games is the average NFL team selling? Like 10 or 11? If you’re a fan of the Steelers or the Ravens or the Colts, and your team is playing a single game in Vegas, I can imagine someone like that flying into town in November and making a weekend out of it. With 162-game baseball season, and you’re a Rangers fan or Red Sox fan or an Orioles, are you going to fly into Vegas in the middle of 110-degree August to catch your team playing an Tuesday night game? Oh, hell no. The A’s will need to rely on a local fan base in southern Nevada, and I just don’t imagine that’s going to be easy to build.
