wandering Jew, in Christian legend, character doomed to live until the end of the world because he taunted Jesus on the way to the Crucifixion. A reference in John 18:20–22 to an officer who struck Jesus at his arraignment before Annas is sometimes cited as the basis for the legend

One of the most fascinating aspects of the Bible left out of the Catholic faith, which I grew up in.

In one of Robert Heinlein’s later sci-fi books, Lazarus Long, Heinlein’s 2000-year-old man, mentions that he met him in Vancouver where he was running a con game under the name Sandy McTavish.

Fascinating. I’d never heard of this “legend” before and I was raised Lutheran.

Wandering Jew, in Christian legend, character doomed to live until the end of the world because he taunted Jesus on the way to the Crucifixion. And,
The wandering Jew has been the subject of many plays, poems, novels, and works of visual art.
Seems to me, then, that the Messiah could wander around deep cover in plain sight wearing this shirt.

I only know about the Roman, Casca Rufio Longinus, who stabbed Jesus on the cross and had to remain a soldier until Christ returns.

Fun Bible facts about that passage from John 18. It looks like there are two high priests (Annas and Caiaphas), but only one was high priest at the time, Caiaphas. His father-in-law, Annas, had been high priest before that and was still very much in influence. Yet neither one could see the awaited Messiah standing in front of them.
Another fun fact is that it says in verses 15 and 16 that Peter wasn't the only disciple who followed Jesus during His trial and got that close. Tradition says the other disciple is John (the writer of that gospel). Between verses 15 and 25 there's no indication that the other disciple separated from Peter. So it may be that the other disciple watched Peter deny Jesus in verses 25-27.

Wandering Jew is also a flower.
Three petaled spiderwort. Comes in white, blue and purple in my yard.
Very beautiful, but will spread like a weed, hence the name..............

There’s nothing about it in the Bible; it’s sort of like ‘The Flying Dutchman’ legend.

John 18:20-22
King James Version
20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?

What do you mean left out of the Catholic faith. Catholics absolutely have the Gospel of John. I don’t know who told you otherwise.

THAT is what my mom always called “The wandering Jew plants”
To: NautiNurse
Grin. We have several Wondering Jews, starting as a leaf branch in a cup of water and later planted around our house.
