We discussed this before. Somehow you seemed to missed the discussion. Hopefully, this will give further clarification:

Ukraine’s election calendar would have held a vote for parliament members this week and a presidential election next March — but Ukraine’s constitution postpones elections under a state of martial law, which the government declared following Russia’s invasion 18 months ago. Ukrainian officials and civil society leaders say no effective elections can be held amid a Russian invasion that now occupies about 18 percent of Ukraine’s territory and has uprooted at least 11 million Ukrainians from their homes. Russian missile attacks continue to strike every region of the country, routinely hitting civilian targets and destroying basic infrastructure.

“In this situation, can we have the elections?” Ukraine’s ambassador in Washington, Oksana Markarova, asked in a discussion last week at USIP.

“Well, definitely not, if you believe in free and fair elections.” She compared Ukraine’s situation with that of Britain during World War II, in which the British parliament voted annually to postpone overdue 1940 elections until after the war’s end.

Oleksii Danilov, secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), expressed frustration that PACE was telling Ukraine to ignore its own constitution, as Ukrainian Pravda reported:

I want to stress that we will handle this [i.e., the question of elections - ed.] ourselves, in accordance with our laws and our Constitution. When the [martial law] is in effect, as it currently is, no elections can take place.

In June 2023, 77% of Ukrainians supported Zelenskyy’s reelection. Because Zelenskyy did make this announcement, and because the Ukrainian law does indeed prohibit elections during martial law.

The Washington-based International Republican Institute (IRI) published an opinion survey last week that found:
- 62% of Ukrainians favoring an indefinite postponement of elections until after the war,

- a total of 71 percent favoring postponement at least until a year from now or longer.

- A similar poll issued by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology finds 81% of Ukrainians favoring a postponement of elections until “after the end of the war.”

- A total of nine recent opinion surveys have consistently found most Ukrainians — in majorities measured at 65 to 80 percent — favoring postponement of elections, said Peter Erben, who directs the Ukraine operations of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).

Erben and Aivazovska spoke alongside Markarova at the USIP discussion last week, co-sponsored by IFES and the National Endowment for Democracy.

Even opposition political figures discourage any attempt to hold elections under Russian attack. Political analysts note that a presidential vote as scheduled next March would give extraordinary advantages to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, letting him use his wartime boost in popularity (an 82 % approval rating in the new IRI poll) to lock in a new five-year term.

- Dmytro Razumkov, a parliament member with an opposition party who is discussed by analysts as a possible presidential candidate, told Politico in September that in part because “a huge amount of territory is either under occupation, or the infrastructure there is destroyed,” Ukraine has “no possibility to organize the election process on the ground” during the war.

I think it is odd that so many worry about Ukrainian elections when their opponents have had the same dictator for nearly a quarter of a century. I guess Putin, since he is old-style KGB, can be excused of everything including the murder of his main political opponent in the heart of Moscow.

True, it is hard for the people of Russia to win against a thug like Putin.

Russian invaders in the Tavria war zone keep applying the tactics of the so-called “cannon fodder assaults,” prioritizing safety of their military hardware over that of manpower. That’s according to Colonel Oleksandr Shtupun, the chief press officer in the area,. “Over the past day, the enemy launched eight airstrikes and 26 artillery barrages in the Tavria direction. There were also 42 combat clashes, most of which occurred near Marinka.

It is worth noting that the enemy pursues the tactics of “cannon fodder assaults” and keeps its equipment safe,” Shtupun said. According to the spokesman, a Ukrainian offensive operation is underway in the Melitopol direction. Acting Head of the Planning Department of the Main Directorate of the National Guard of Ukraine Mykola Urshalovych said that the enemy has been conducting an active counterattack in the Bakhmut axis and continuing mass “cannon fodder assaults” in several areas of the Avdiyivka axis, sustaining tremendous losses.

“In the Bakhmut axis, in the Klischiyivka area, intense fighting continues. The enemy has been constantly and actively counterattacking with the aim of stopping further advancement of our detachments and taking back the lost positions,” he said. Urshalovych stressed that fighters from the 5th Brigade of the National Guard, as part of the defense forces, repel enemy attacks without losing previously achieved successes. “In the Avdiivka axis, the enemy continues mass “cannon fodder assaults” in several directions, sustaining tremendous losses in personnel and military hardware,” the National Guard said. Ukraine has already said that more than 305,000 Russian soldiers have been killed.

Even Putin’s closest associates seem to have trouble telling them apart. And now this – state security typically keep the latest body doubles away from the general public, but this time they really must have dropped the ball.

New Sanctions against Russia: The Economy Will Suffer Again

As soon as the U.S. announced new sanctions against Russian companies and enterprises, the stock values dropped on the Moscow exchange. This process of devaluating Russian assets will harm Russia’s economy again. And we can only wonder for how long the Russian private businesses and ordinary citizens will tolerate economic deterioration.

I look over this daily waste of bandwidth because it is an interesting example of cognitive dissonance. Even Zelensky’s staff are especially generals are being forced to admit that their struggle is going badly. Representatives from the Biden administration are now hinting that some sort of agreement with the Russians is going to have to be reached. There is a sea change coming, yet we have this daily thread trying to convince us that victory for the Ukrainians is just around the corner if more $Billions are spent and what is left of the men and boys in Ukraine are forced to sacrifice themselves.

I have never seen this type of disconnect from reality on this forum previously. How much longer will it go on as reality finally is beginning to slap Europe in the face and the MSM is starting to report on it and big tech isn’t bothering to censor it all.

Hey revmommy, can you give us the inside scoop as to why your homo hero Z doesn’t want to hold elections?

He can't legally under Ukrainian law, because it would be unconstitutional during wartime.

The Constitutional Process in Wartime Ukraine

Why Ukraine likely won't hold elections next year

No apology necessary. :)

Re-clarification of both points for you:

1. Slava Ukraine means “Glory to Ukraine!”

This phrase became popular among Ukrainians during the Ukrainian War of Independence from 1917 to 1921. From the 1930s Slava Ukraine was used by different Ukrainian groups, as well as Ukrainian diaspora groups and refugee communities during the Cold War.

Of course in the Soviet Union the phrase was forbidden and later other Russian authorities. The phrase eventually resurfaced in Ukraine during the country’s struggle for independence in connection with the fall of the Soviet Union.

Today, during the ongoing 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine “Slava Ukraine” is used in protests to SUPPORT Ukraine around the world.

( Ukrainian: Слава Україні!, romanized : Sláva Ukrayíni!, IPA: [ˈsɫaʋɐ ʊkrɐˈjinʲi] ( listen)) is a Ukrainian national salute, known as a symbol of Ukrainian sovereignty and resistance and as the official salute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine ...

2. “In this situation, can we have the elections?” Ukraine’s ambassador in Washington, Oksana Markarova, asked in a discussion last week at USIP.

“Well, definitely not, if you believe in free and fair elections.” She compared Ukraine’s situation with that of BRITAIN during World War II, in which the British parliament voted annually to POSTPONT overdue 1940 elections until after the war’s end.
