Actually, the fixer didn’t really help. She thinks things need to happen in a certain fashion and, frankly, was trying, however well-intentioned, to manipulate me into acting to achieve her goals.
The main issue is, she wants Dad to move to assisted living. He LOATHES that idea. She wants me to help convince him of that or failing that, provide him with visits several times per week. While he would greatly enjoy that, he has said it isn’t necessary.
Yes, something could happen and he could die. But, he would die in the home he enjoys, doing things he enjoys, surrounded by his belongings and his garden. I cannot find fault in that.
Well, it sounds like letting him stay in his home is the answer, and, you’re right, who can blame him? I think we all feel that way. Sleep well.

My husbands brother-in-law wanted nothing to do with assisted living either. He was 92 IIRC. Even though he had us here and some grand-children here his daughter lived in Texas. She was nervous for him living alone.
She convinced him to give it a try. She told him to keep his house and if after a year you don’t like living in assisted living you can come back to your house.
Now he was a VERY social person. He knew no strangers and he found that he LOVED being there.
Not knowing your father Jemian, if he is at all social he may find it wouldn’t be so bad.
I also have a friend living in an assisted home and she is happy there. It is not a nursing home. Lots of activities.
