That’s the highest annual income necessary to afford a home on record.

The income hasn’t kept pace with inflation. The fly over country has experienced a decline in prosperity during Biden’s tenure.
Detroit. LOL Even if someone TRIED to build there, the property would be stripped overnight.
Try buying something in Hong Kong or Switzerland.
Its expensive all around the world.
Only in the USA are we guilt tripped into giving free stuff to freeloaders.

A couple of my former HS art students bought a “fixer-upper” home in Detroit for dirt cheap a few years ago. After three break-ins, they bailed. I think they got the house so cheap that they just said f*** it and left; no re-sale value, as the people that broke in vandalized it so badly.
That said, I think they were in a really bad part of town; there are some nicer areas of Detroit where the prices are probably pretty good, yeah.
Downtown Detroit is being gentrified.
