She probably inspired many people with similar health issues.

You are probably right.

She joins the ranks of Steve Jobs and many others who bought into non-medical snake-oil treatments.

We even see some of those crazy treatments promoted right here on FR.

We are saddened by her loss. And yes, it was her life and her choice.

Choices have consequences.

RIP.

And yet, she was able to fight off cancer for decades. Something worked

It’s hard to beat cancer forever but she did successfully fight it for a long time.

She was diagnosed over 20 years ago with a very aggressive form of breast cancer. I'd say her "snake oil" worked pretty good compared to the standard treatment.

“She joins the ranks of Steve Jobs and many others who bought into non-medical snake-oil treatments.”

A decision that Jobs stated before he died was the worse mistake of his life.

Here’s a transcript of Larry King’s interview with Suzanne Somers: http://www.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0103/28/lkl.00.html

I wanted to learn more myself about her treatment.

She did undergo conventional treatment. She had a lumpectomy and radiation. That is standard treatment for early-stage breast cancer.

She said the tumor was 2.4 cm, but she didn’t mention lymph nodes or metastasis. Back then, her BC would’ve been Stage 2:
https://www.komen.org/breast-cancer/diagnosis/stages-staging/pre-2018-rubric/

Under the latest guidelines, she might’ve been Stage 1: https://www.komen.org/breast-cancer/diagnosis/stages-staging/

Yes, she refused chemo and what she called “after-care drugs.” I suspect she’s talking about drugs that lower estrogen, which means her BC was ER (estrogen) positive.

But, many women with early-stage BC refuse chemo and anti-estrogen pills, so that’s not surprising.

What’s interesting is that, instead, she injected herself every day with “Iscador.”

But, IMHO, the crazy part is that she refused to stop using HRT (hormone replacement therapy), which is believed to cause BC.

And yet, she went on to live another 23 years. That’s surprising.

But, she gave that interview only a year after diagnosis. Maybe she stopped the HRT later.

Whatever the case, I suspect her cancer was low-grade and slow-growing, which means the chemo might not have worked well, anyway. It works better on high-grade, aggressive BC.

Not all BC patients are offered chemo nowadays: https://www.yalemedicine.org/news/chemo-for-breast-cancer
