I don't see where any of that amounts to "tapping the breaks" on German aid to Ukraine.

Anyone who was alive at the time clearly remembers that the US "Containment Policy" towards the Soviet and Chinese Communists was first formulated by Democrat President Truman and later formalized under Republican President Eisenhower, and was widely supported by everyone, Democrat, Republican, liberal and conservative, with the only fringe opposition coming from radical socialists like a young Bernie Sanders, who wanted to see Communist Russia victorious.

"Containment" was built on the theory that if we could stop Communist aggressions and prevent expansions of the Communist Empire, then the Evil Empire would, on its own eventually fail and collapse, which it finally did, around 1990.
In pursuit of "containment" the US supported anti-Communist forces and governments in many countries, from Korea and Vietnam to many other countries in South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and South-Central America.

The result was Containment forced Communism to stew in its own juices rather than feed off the spoils of conquered countries, and brought it's eventual collapse.

The history of Vietnam is worthy of study because US serious warfare there began and expanded under Democrat administrations and was then forced into defeat by Democrat congresses withdrawing funding for our allies in South Vietnam.
In the ending it was similar to Afghanistan.

Thanks in large part to Republican diplomacy, Vietnam today is friendly to the United States out of its fears of growing Chi-Com hegemony.
The Vietnamese army, having battled and claimed to defeat the mighty USA was not intimidated by Chi-Com invaders in 1979.

In the end, Vietnam is not quite as friendly as our defeated enemies in WWII are today, but they are reasonably so, and for Americans, never forget, peace, friendship and prosperity are victories, even if, or especially if, won at great sacrifice in our own blood and treasure.

Curiously, that's the first time I've seen the term "sub rosa" posted on Free Republic.
We learn something new every day here.

Sadly, corruption under our current regime is off the scale, in my opinion, and may be contributing to whatever endemic corruption Ukrainians suffer.
But while Ukrainians are working to publicly expose and root out their corruption, our own DC swamp is doing everything possible to conceal and protect its own corruptions.

Hopefully all such US issues will be corrected in the next elections and Ukraine will remain above such matters.

In the meantime, I would not punish all Ukrainians or all Americans because of the unfortunate corruption of a few individuals or even institutions.

These combined with multiple threats against other neighbors make Vlad the Invader a true modern-day incarnation of 1930s Nazi Germany with its invasions of the Rhineland, Austria and Czechoslovakia before launching WWII against Poland in 1939.

So the only "cognitive dissonance" here requires ignoring the obvious lessons of history, that ruthless aggressors must be stopped while they are relatively small and weak or it will soon enough take a desperate world war with tens of millions dead to finally defeat them.

Why anyone would deliberately ignore such obvious lessons from history, "cognitive dissonance" or not, is beyond my comprehension.
