The truth is, before the early 2000s, Russia wanted to join NATO, and was encouraged to do so by such western leaders as US President Clinton.
And had Vlad the Invader carried through with joining NATO, it would be literally impossible for NATO to threaten Russia.
But Vlad decided he didn't want NATO as his ally, but rather he wanted NATO his enemy and CCP China as his closest ally.
And so, he shelved plans to join NATO and instead buddy-buddied up with the CCP's Xi-snake, Little Kim and the Moolah Mullahs.

In the meantime, Ukraine had no plans to join NATO and opinion polls showed most Ukrainians didn't want to join NATO but preferred to be neutral and friendly with everyone.
That lasted until 2014 when Vlad the Invader seized Crimea and started civil wars in parts of the Donbas.
Then suddenly, most Ukrainians wanted NATO to help protect them against the insane murderous dictator in Russia.

So today NATO is Russia's enemy because that is what Vlad the Invader wanted!
It had nothing to do with Ukraine wanting to join NATO.

The truth is the US first committed to protect Ukraine in the Budapest Agreement of 1994, signed by Pres. Clinton.
Every year after 1994 Congress provided Ukraine hundreds of millions of dollars in mostly civilian aid -- supported by presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama -- until Vlad the Invader's 2014 seizures of Crimea and Donbas territories, at which time US aid increased to circa $500 million per year, and shifted to mostly military.

After Vlad invaded Georgia in 2008, US Pres. Bush recommended NATO membership for both Georgia and Ukraine.
So US presidents and congresses have committed to help Ukraine for over 30 years now.

Further, under Pres. Trump US aid to Ukraine was about double that of Obama's and focused on lethal weapons to defeat Vlad's tanks and BMPs.

Trump also condemned Vlad's 2022 invasion of Ukraine and did not oppose US military aid to help defeat Vlad's assaults.

Today, Trump is thinking correctly about how to negotiate a just end to Russia's invasion, but he has never turned against Ukraine or Ukrainians the way many pro-Russian posters here have.

The truth of this matter includes:

1. In 2014, Vlad the Invader -- unprovoked -- assaulted, seized and declared annexed Ukrainian Crimea and Donbas.
   It was not a "border dispute" or a "civil war", it was blatant empire-building aggression from Russia's dictator.

2. From the beginning, the US supported Ukraine's efforts to fight back, though at relatively low levels before Vlad's 2022 2nd Invasion, at which point dozens of western countries multiplied their previous shipments.

3. Every dollar for Ukraine was authorized by Congress and none of it constitutes legally being "at war with" Russia.
   This is simply more of the kinds of aid used for many decades since 1945.
   If you wish to metaphorically call it "a DeFacto state of war", that's your privilege of free-speech, but it is no more officially a "war" than was the loosely termed 55-year-long "Cold War".

So the current dispute between Poland and Ukraine is over grain, meaning economics, not over politics or ethics or anything else.
Latest news reports say the new incoming Polish government will likely restore good relations with Ukraine.

The USA has allowed women in the armed forces since at least the Second World War and over the years they have been assigned closer and closer to dangerous front lines, resulting in casualties and deaths.
Hundreds of US women soldiers have died in the War on Terror and other recent engagements.

As for Vlad the Invader's actions in Ukraine, the key fact to remember there is that most of Vlad's troops in Ukraine are not actually Russians, but rather are non-Russian subjects of Vlad's Russian Empire.
When Vlad runs out of non-Russians to feed into the Ukrainian meat-grinder, and is forced to conscript more actual Russians, you can well expect Russians themselves to increasing oppose getting their sons killed or maimed for no discernable reason in Ukraine.
