Tucker Carlson Questions U.S. Support for Israel War – Could the GOP Follow?
Haaretz ^ | 10/10/2023 | Ben Samuels

Carlson's opposition to GOP support for Israel to fight back in self-defense against Hamas marks him as an outlier.

But his outsized influence may move some Republicans towards a more skeptical position on Israel.

Tucker Carlson, the far-right U.S. pundit who has been among the most high-profile skeptics of providing military aid and diplomatic support to Ukraine, used his Twitter talk show to decry Republicans advocating for Israel to use all of its capabilities to fight back against Hamas in Gaza, as well as its regional backers in Iran, after the terror group's assault on southern Israel.

Buchanan’s speech at the ‘92 convention was great. He went after Bubba and Hitlery, talked about freedom and the greatness of America. What was wrong with that? Buchanan was a formidable opponent for Dad Bush. He certainly would have been a better President.

Gee with friends like y’all who needs enemies? Cultures, peoples and countries that are friends and have a history of shared interests and population help each other when in need. I’m sure if we needed Israeli soldiers from their 24/7 protective posts or money from their smaller GDP they would certainly help the USA, but as it is we don’t need them but they could use our help right now.

He had to it to remain consistent to his position on Russia/Ukraine. I think.

This terrorist attack is disgusting and deplorable. Why isn’t anyone asking how Hamas was able to commit such atrocities after Egypt warned Isreal 3 days in advance. Israel was warned. Israel has the most sophisticated defences a country can have. Why was this allowed to happen?
They were warned.

“Why was this allowed to happen?”

You are wondering why the Israeli government might allow harm to come to their own citizens when in the last 2 years we saw them force their entire population to get a poisonous big pharma injection for the common cold?

Yes, you are right. So does the Israeli government actually care about it’s citizens?

A war with Hamas might just be what the Israeli government wants to distract their people from things like government corruption that was recently exposed plus the increasing deaths from the jab

I wish more people would stop and reason who stands to benefit from this death and chaos. This should have been prevented. 6 billion to Iran. 80 billion weaponry left in Afghanistan. HAMAS should be taken out. And likewise, we should be holding everyone who fostered this accountable.

The same number of US troops that fought four Israel in all of its wars, when Israel's victory served US interests in the region, none. During Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and other wars, the US was and is a global power. Israel is not and is surrounded by enemies. That is a big difference in scale.

Even with no US combat infantry, it was US made F-15 and F-16s that allowed Israel to win in the air from 1980 onward. This includes Operation Opera When Israeli F-16s took out Iraq's nuclear facilities. A action that few other fighters of the day could have achieved.

No boots on ground does not mean no shared interests or support for the outcomes of military operations.

If Saddam really was a danger, then his danger was more immediate to Israel than the US, which means it was Israel who should have invaded and occupied Iraq

At that time in the 1990s, then after the convention into the early 2000s, it was not only Buchanan's convention speech or what his stated positions meant. It was all of Buchanan's other words and actions that alienated most Republicans. He came across as trying to dictate that the GOP would go his way or no way at all. As a result at the time he became part of the fringe right that was more of use to the left to attack the right than advance any cause or position he supported. His being right or wrong was less important than his obstructionism hurt the GOP more than what he supported helped. Well, that's how I remember it.

You cannot support one war and condemn another. He never said Israel couldn’t defend itself. He implied we shouldn’t be involved. He’s right. Israel can take care of herself. We really have no say in how they defend themselves. America, getting directly involved, especially under the Biden administration, will muck things up, as we always do.

The funny thing is, Buchanan’s positions are very similar to Trump’s.

Re: "How many Israeli soldiers fought alongside US soldiers in Korea?"

The Korean War began in 1950.

The nation of Israel did not even exist until 1948.

Vietnam?

Are you serious? Every country that bordered Israel in the 1960s threatened to destroy Israel. In 1967, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan attacked Israel. And you, apparently, think Israel should have been sending its soldiers to Vietnam?

Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria?

100% of Arab and Muslim countries clearly stated they would never fight along side Israel against other Arab or Muslim countries.

Sorry, Rattlesnake.

Historical illiteracy is NOT a virtue at Free Republic.
