I think you are confused on both the timeline and the geography. They didn't recapture Kherson until November 2022 - long after the summer. They never got close to Crimea in the summer of 2022.
The civil war was NEVER any of our business, it is not a national security threat to us. If you and others want to, go there and help fight, send your kids, send your money, but leave the American people out. And that sentiment says nothing about my view o f Putin or any of these people. Very simply, it is not our concern. Our concern should focus on the invasion at our southern border. To me, nothing else matters.
Lavrov and others have said this war will be decided on the battlefield.

According to media estimates, the Russian soldiers and mercenaries of paramilitary groups who returned from the war in Ukraine committed at least 20 crimes in which 27 people died; most of these crimes were blamed on former fighters of the Wagner Private Military Company (PMC).

According to the publication, the Wagner mercenaries were accused of committing 12 crimes; 19 people became their victims.
In the first three days of October alone, the former mercenaries committed two murders. On 3 October, Wagner ex-mercenary Denis Stepanov allegedly set fire to a house with two women in Krasnoyarsk Krai. Another case was recorded on 1 October, when, according to investigators, a former soldier killed the 4-year-old daughter of his wife in Lipetsk.
At the end of September, a former Wagnerite Oleg allegeldy doused with gasoline and burned his sister alive in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. In the middle of the same month, Russian Sergei K., according to investigators, killed his colleague with a stone due to an unreturned debt.
In September, Tsyren-Dorzhi Tsyrenzhapov, an ex-convict who returned from the war, became suspect in the murder of a resident of Chita.
There are also cases of an ex-mercenary of the Wagner PMC Roman M., who allegedly killed a drinking companion in Kemerovo Oblast, and of contractor Sergey, who killed a cohabitant in Buryatia.
The most massive murder occured in September, when an ex-mercenary Igor Sofonov, who, together with his friend, killed six people at once, and then set fire to two houses to hide traces.
In July, one volunteer was accused of murder, in May there were three such murders, while five were recorded in April, and two in March.
All the cases reported occurred in the period from March 2023.

If Ukraine has lost two to three times its entire armed forces, Russia would have won with in months. That has not happened. No matter how much people claim Russia has really already won, the facts are Russia has not won and Ukraine has not lost.
It is because you characterize Ukrainians as “freedom fighters”, Russia as the “new Evil Empire” and the people in the Donbas as living in “literal slavery” that we know you are nothing but a warmonger.

Reagan would never give the Ukraine a dime, and that's before we get to the Ukrainian child trafficking, organ harvesting, sex trafficking of women and drugs. The Ukraine was converted into a cesspool of crime by the world's elites - who are now throwing the citizens into the trenches to fight NATO's proxy war against Russia.
They were never Ukrainian nuclear weapons
They were Soviet nucs deployed to Ukraine, always under command and control of Russians. The breakup of the Soviet Union required negotiations over how the command and control of forward deployed nucs was to be reorganized.
Frankly Europe wanted them out of Ukraine because of the extreme corruption and concerns the nucs would end up on the black market
It's non-binding. But after what happened to Qadaffi in Libya and now with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the word is out on the street. You better get your nuclear weapons now if you want to maintain your territorial integrity.
I think nuclear proliferation is a bad idea and we've been lucky so far. Our luck may run out. So it's only a matter of time before we'll see Hiroshima and Nagasaki again. Probably in our lifetimes.
Eventually there will be weapons that will make nuclear weapons the least of our worries, and there will be no way to control them.
It was a bad idea for Ukraine to have nuclear weapons in 1994 due to extreme corruption like you said. But they had the possession of the nuclear weapons even if the nuclear codes were in Moscow. The Soviet Union no longer existed so Ukraine had the right to possess the nuclear weapons. They were willing to play ball and give them back to the Russians. It was done in good faith at that time. Boris Yeltsin had no desire to conquer Ukraine to expand the Russian Empire.
Merkel explained the 2008 opposition to inviting Ukraine to NATO was explicitly because Putin would view it as a ‘declaration of war’.
Our own secret diplomatic cables, in no sense written to sway public opinion, document the possibility of NATO enlargement triggering a civil war in Eastern Ukraine and the Russians left deciding how to respond. So it is disengenuous for anyone to contend that NATO enlargement wasn’t understood to be a provocation.
NATO secretary was just talking about the fact that Russia approached in 2021 with a draft treaty for a neutral Ukraine and it was rejected.
After the coup in 2014 I had come to the conclusion the State Dept under Obama was inept, and didn’t anticipate that Russia would respond overtly into Crimea. After the neocons got back into the White House and immediately started pushing NATO expansion again I decided they weren’t naive. This was deliberate.
With the exit by Trump from Afghanistan the MIC needed a new sink, and they wasted little time creating a one.

Well, ‘Military Summary’ hasn’t made that claim (he’s about as reasonably objective in his analysis as anyone you can find analyzing the war on a daily basis) and I certainly haven’t either. I’ve long since been sick of the ongoing bloodbath there. I don’t want a single additional American dollar going to support that war and its killings.
