I would appreciate any advise or any ideas to help a young loved one who is suffering terribly with ulcerative colitis. The only relief thus far is from prednisone, which comes with other problems. Prayers please! Thank you in advance.
Go see a gastroenterologist. It might be Crohn’s Disease.
Try to get a prescription opioid for the pain. It also gives constipation.
Hydrocodone worked well. Probably 2 weeks worth.
It will effect immediately, the prednisone for more long term.
below are 2 links from earth clinic which is a great site for true healing solutions (as opposed toxic drugs like prednisone). Take the time to read through the details and others comments on what works/doesn’t work. From my own experience, the bulk of gut issues really stem from an underproductive liver (believe it or not) so taking HCL which is hydrochloric acid and enzymes, will start the liver/gut into doing what it does best. Couple it with anti inflammatory supplements like turmeric/aloe vera and you should start to see healing (not just covering up of symptoms)

Asacol.
Get diagnosed to make sure you know what the issue is...
If Ulcerative Colitis, you might look here...

A couple of thoughts. Is he really stressed, perhaps experiencing repetitive anxious thoughts...known as ideation. That will ramp up stress hormones and those cause real damage. Also, find out what he’s eating. He may have an allergy, or it may be really bad for his system. Nuts and scratch chunky food can lodge in pockets in the intestines and get infected. A substantial amount of Imodium may help. The Walmart brand is substantially cheaper than the main brands and it’s exactly the same stuff. I have been taking twelve per day for a decade. (Yeah, I’m an old fart. But not as much of a fart as I used to be.)
Prayers for relief for your relative !
I mean this sincerely: tell them to stop eating wheat for 1 month. Make no other changes but cutting out anything with wheat for 30 days. That’s it.
Read Wheat Belly for more reasons why. Changed my life.

Visibiome sells VSL#3, the most studied probiotic.
You have to purchase the Visibiome product because there are imitators out there which don’t work as well.
From extensive family experience, I say get to a good gastro guy asap (research it) and get that person off that pred stuff ASAP. Do NOT let them stay on it long term. There are good meds out there that target the issue now and even surgery is SO much better than it was years ago. Good luck.
Surgery is not necessary with the proper diagnosis and proper treatment. Often, people take forever to get diagnosed.
Most often an emotional disorder. Eliminate stress bad lifestyle choices and it will be gone . . . probably.
But, if you go to a surgeon he is gonna get cut on and if he goes to an internist he is gonna get pilled. And if he goes to a naturopath he is going to get on a real expensive diet.
(1) They will need to wear depends. Make sure they fold the waistband down so that it reduces pressure on their abdomen.
(2) Use Charmin soft tissue paper. I buy mine from Costco.
(3) Use a water spray to “spritz” the toilet paper. Equate 2 oz fingertip sprayer works really well. A little bit of moisture will help reduce abrasions from all the toilet trips.
(4) Use bars of soap rather than liquid. It is easier on your hands.
(5) Buy a bottle of Lubriderm. It doesn’t take much, but they will get dishpan hands without it. My bottle has lasted 2 years.
(6) Get a mat to sleep on and a mat for the car to sit on. Sometimes the depends leak.
(7) Use plastic grocery bags to dispose of soiled Depends. Double tie them tight to keep your garbage can from smelling.
Contact me via FR email if you want further ideas. I have been living in a constant U.C. Flare for two years. Coping can be tough.
I have colitis. They put me on steroids for two weeks.
It took four tries, but he finally found the right medication that works for me. I haven’t had a flare in 5 years.
Prayers for healing, and the correct medical help.
Is IBD similar to ulcerative colitis? I recall seeing a post over on Patriots.win last year sometime, in the replies of which was an anon who swore that IVM (which he’d been taking prophylactically for covid), vastly improved his inflammatory bowel disease.
Please seek out information on the carnivore diet and uc. Lots of podcasts with people it has helped. https://www.lowcarbusa.org/brett-ender-ep-91/
My car sits in the garage. I like it okay but we separate after the journey.
