I got an email today (below) that cracked me up.
My favorite spam is the one informing me that my webtv account has been suspended.
Webtv has been out of business since 1997.
(I kept the @webtv.net email address—confuses ‘em—lol).
My favorite was a text message telling me there was a password issue with my Netflix account.
Except I don’t have a Netflix account.
And they spelled it “Neltfix.”
It was during Gulf War II.
Guys in Signal Corps got hold of two of Saddam Hussein’s Lincoln Navigators and wanted to know how diagnose and fix the air suspension.
Regardless of the type of scam, if you think it’s legit, Google the customer service number & call them. Never use the number in the email.
“Unfortunately I have hacked your computer camera and have several compromising videos and chats. For $2,000USD I will delete all files and avoid you embarrassment.”
I get this one, among many others.
Unfortunately for them:
1. I don’t have a camera.
2. I don’t do videos or chats.
3. I don’t get embarrassed.
Just yesterday I had a call ostensibly from New Orleans. Normally I ignore calls from unknown numbers, but thought it might be fun. A voice with a heave Filipino accent (I’m very familiar with the accent; thank you US Navy) said caller was from a medical center and asked if I had pain in several areas of the body he listed. I replied “I have a pain in my ass; he’s 42 and I can send him to you for treatment.” Sadly the guy hung up.
