In this video we show you one example of how repair cost are out of control on modern vehicles nowadays. It is definitely something to consider when purchasing a new vehicle.
You need your car to tell ya what song is playing? A tv screen so you can back up? You don't know when you're changing lanes?
I certainly don't need all that garbage. Sales gimmicks, bells and whistles for the easily impressed. All that garbage is used by dealerships bump those price$ way up.
How about heated brake and gas pedals so when it's cold but you still want to drive barefoot? It's a must have!☺ And those seat massagers! lol...
Those are always popular at the auctions.
My daughter had a…this is a guess… 1999 maybe 98 or 2000? 4 runner, it was a big 4 cylinder with rear wheel drive. It actually got decent fuel mileage for a big solid vehicle. Like 23 hwy.
Low miles and her and her silly husband traded it for a sporty looking Pontiac. I tried to talk her out if it but she had her own job so I didnt press the issue.
They started having mechanical issues with the Pontiac and got rid of it in like a year and a half. 🤷♂️
TY
I think it’s all about buying a quality make like Toyota and being lucky/ shrewd enough to tell if it’s been maintained.
Honestly I think the fear of rebuild titles is a little overblown. Avoid electrical issues, big frame repairs, flood (especially salt) and my experience is you are usually good. The only really bad one for me was a Ford Taurus that had a bad head gasket. My fault because I didn’t follow my own rules (test drive or at run it ahead of time).
I don't listen to 70s crap. So when a new release comes on and the DJ doesn't indicate the artist and name it's nice to be able to see it on my infotainment screen.
A tv screen so you can back up?
It's nice to see what's back there below the glass line. And if there is a large vehicle on either side of me it's nice to be able see what's on either side of me. You know, like little children. A backup camera makes it much safer to back up. You should try it some time.
You don't know when you're changing lanes?
I know when I'm changing lanes. It's not a must-have feature for me, but it is normally bundled with all of the safety features that are important to me. My truck doesn't have it and I don't miss it at all.
This is a tail light assembly with radar. This is not a tail lamp.
the light was out, that’s what started it...
I haven’t watched the video but a similar article described a taillight that had ECM/ECU subunits embedded in the tailight, no radio frequency transmit/receive system.
Love it! I had a black Samurai h/t, now a Sidekick h/t, lifted and big treads just like that. Compliments all the time. Use it to transport my e-mtb on a hitch rack. Never did put a bull bar on it because the Sidekick is kind of aerodynamic in front (!) and I didn’t want to lose that on the highway. With A/C on, tops out comfortably at about 78 with the big wheels. The roof rack takes off those last 2 mph.
outstanding!!!
no matter where i go, it’s always, is it FOR SALE???
nope...
I hear ya. Our newest vehicle is our 2010 Tundra. Even that with the traction control is annoying. Our 2005 Odyssey is awesome, 220,000 + miles with many of its original parts and still a pleasure to drive.
I looked at an Audi TT when they came out. A headlight was $750.
damn, my daughters BF has a black 2020, beautiful car
she’s a manager at corning so she can afford it i guess...
I looked that up, somewhat mystified. It's true.
A double-facepalm design if there ever was. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??? LOL. (sorry)

Last week I was in Palm springs and I saw a beautiful new BMW convertible. I said to my friend, you know, if I had that car I would not use it as my daily driver. It would be something for going downtown the golf course, rides in the evening to the theater or restaurants. Stuff like that.
In other words, I wouldn’t put many miles on it. So I said to him, if I was going to spend that kind of money I would put it into a fully restored 1959 Cadillac convertible or 1964 Lincoln Continental convertible. Or maybe I could have one of each. A lot smoother ride and a lot more of a head turner. And a lot simpler to keep running! 🤣
Kind of my thoughts on the matter. I have an ‘also” concern. I lose keys and when I get a bike or a car I immediately get 3-5 copies of the keys made. That is much more of a hassle with electronically enhanced ignition keys and far more expensive. Won’t have a car that needs those.
We drive our new cars till they drop.
Buy the least expensive, most reliable cars I can sit in.
Purchase the base trims.
Maintain them assiduously.
We routinely get over 200,000 miles and/or a decade of use with minimal repair costs on our new cars.
Buying new works very well for us.
And since cars are no fun anymore, all of this is easy to do
And we do check both repair AND insurance costs when we research.
I know people who’ve sold new cars for a living. They’ll tell you in private buying a new car is an extreme rip off. But if ya don’t care about flushing your money, go for it!
