we got a small payment after being rear ended last february...it took 6 months of waiting until they finally declared it totaled...too bad because I loved my Rav4 and we would have kept it another 10 yrs probably....

I just bought a new work truck, 1 ton Silverado, service bed, lift gate...I run them for 5 years then they are put out to pasture. Around 250k miles. $70K out the door

You sound like a bitter angry person. Some of us don't want to drive a 20-30 year old clunker. I like the modern technology of my 2022 CUV. I like the adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, 8 inch infotainment screen that tells me what song is playing while giving me a nice picture of what's out there when I'm backing up, the front view camera, the lane departure warning, the lane centering, the electronic stability control, the anti-lock brakes, the auto temperature HVAC, the onboard navigation, the auto high beams, the auto on LED headlights and so much more. Maybe you're afraid you won't be able to understand all of that. Or maybe you're just too poor to afford a new car, which isn't a crime. But don't belittle or begrudge those of us who are financially secure and can afford a new car and also understand how much safer a newer car is.

You like all the computer whiz bang gizmos. No problem. I prefer to drive and operate the vehicle manually, using my own sensors. I like cars with class, and that generally means older vehicles. Not the endless drone models that look like shoes, most look the same... Not too many decades ago production line models became classics. Worth big dollar today.

And if ya read back, I was referring to approaching it as a business deal. You missed the point. It's simply a bad business deal to buy a new car as I alluded to above. The taxes are a burn, financing, all that jacks up the cost/price$ and then the value drops 10 to 15% the second you drive it off the car lot. It's not so much the money, I just dislike bad deals.
