Restaurant fires back at NYT columnist after he complained about the cost of his meal: 'Keep drinking buddy'
Fox News ^ | 9/21/23 | Gabriel Hays

A restaurant fired back at New York Times columnist David Brooks after he complained Wednesday on social media about the cost of his meal, saying, "This is why Americans think the economy is terrible."

"This meal just cost me $78 at Newark Airport. This is why Americans think the economy is terrible," Brooks wrote with a picture of his dinner, which consisted of a cheeseburger, fries and what appears to be an alcoholic beverage.

However, the restaurant 1911 Smoke House Barbeque pushed back on Brooks' post on Facebook Thursday.

"Looks like someone was knocking back some serious drinks - Bar tab was almost 80% and he's complaining about the cost of his meal," it wrote. "Keep drinking buddy - we get paid off everything."

Brook's post went viral on X, formerly known as Twitter, receiving more than 20 million views in under 24 hours. Many who commented on the post mocked the New York Times columnist.

Co-host of "Breaking Points" Saagar Enjeti said, "Brooks inadvertently proving an important point. If you stop drinking alcohol you can save yourself a lot money!"

Conservative author Carmine Sabia asked, "Alexa, what is an elitist?"

"You voted for Biden. Chow down," conservative actor Nick Searcy wrote.

Author Joyce Carol Oates also mocked Brooks, posting, "(bar bill: $66. food bill: $12. tip: $0 N Y Times expense account)."

There’s a couple of good ones here.

I now prefer the McDonald’s chicken sandwich.

There’s one u truly loved at Chick-fil-A but the CEO turned me off and I haven’t been back in over 3 years now.

And I dropped $43 for two people and an extra shake and tenders to go. That was very early in 2020.

McDonald’s has a decent basic chicken sandwich but I prefer the Popeyes sandwich.

Yeah, that’s the price at a bar / restaurant in a nearby no stoplight town.
Surprised it was so cheap at an airport.
Remember when Conservatives, hugely, supported Chick Fila, when the left went after them?
And this is how they thank us!

cheeseburger, fries for $12 doesn’t seem all that unreasonable these days

I agree. You'd pay that pretty much anywhere that isn't a fast food outlet.

Maybe goobers who are getting sloshed at the airport should post on social media.

I hear ya.

There’s a pretty good one around here but it’s $16. Egg hashbrowns mushrooms.

It’s huge. Kinda difficult to finish.

Lately they’ve been skimping on the tater tots and fries. Onion rings only 75 cents more. Maybe I can get one Friday.

I know. We helped them tremendously.

I went out of my way to eat there.

Now, after the CEO went Woke Stupid, I go out of my way to avoid them.

Taco Bell McDonald’s and Popeyes are good enough for my fast food. No In and Out nearby, sadly.

That’s what you’d pay at McDonald’s. 12 bucks at an airport restaurant is cheap for even halfway decent food.

The ironic thing is that David Brooks wrote "The Real Anita Hill", the book that enlightened me on the tactics of the Left. That exposed the utter shamelessness that the Left had to standards. It showed me that calling Leftists "hypocrites" or "having double-standards" is a waste of time.

Funny how shortly after he wrote that book, somebody outed him as a homosexual, and he's been a committed Lefty ever since.

Is that for real?

I’d eat there.

Especially now.

And if it’s the GOP Establishment David Brooks from PBS I’d order extra burgers. πŸ”πŸ”πŸ”πŸ”πŸ”πŸ”πŸ”πŸ”

Don’t know if it’s real, but was part of the twitter response. Looks to be good advertising. But wow, to brave Newark Airport just to eat there.

I used to fly into EWR a lot but not since I’ve retired, don’t miss it.

I don’t eat fast food but Mickey D’s or Subway is the only thing within 12 miles.

Look at they very top for a BOGO with a 15-17 digit number.

It may not be available in your area.

It DEFINITELY brings me back to McDonald’s.

I have about 7-9 coupons in my wallet.

I fill them out on my cellphone πŸ“±, mostly.

I like Subway but they killed the $5 deal.

Can’t even get it for $6 foot long.

Prices DO vary so I’m careful which one I choose.

I have two favorite McDonald’s I go two

Best prices in the city.

And on the way where I drive. Conveniently.

I guess he thought everything should be free (including drinks) in the socialist paradise. Especially for someone as important as a journalist.

If I was there I’d spend $100 if I had it, lol.

But I’ll just take a large Coca-Cola with my burger πŸ” and fries 🍟.

Ahh, yes. Rate them highly satisfied at mcdvoice.com to get a free sandwich with the purchase of another sandwich.

A lot of rigmarole for a once a month at best happening (the mcnuggets weren’t for me).

Yeah. I just tell them everything was wonderful.

One of my favorites gave me a couple of terrific πŸ‘πŸ‘ Quarter Pounders with Cheese.

I actually went back and told the manager that they were the best I’ve ever had in 50+ years of eating McDonald’s.

About 20 minutes before they closed. Hot off the grill, custom order.

Now I’m hungry......
