A North Carolina woman is suing Google after her husband died after driving off a collapsed bridge while following GPS directions, according to a lawsuit filed this week.
Philip Paxson died after driving off "an unmarked, unbarricaded collapsed bridge" on the night of Sept. 30, 2022, in Hickory, his widow, Alicia Paxson, said in the suit filed in Wake County on Tuesday.
Paxson was not aware the bridge had collapsed and was following GPS directions from Google, which had not been updated, the lawsuit says.

I agree, but google has more money.
When I was a kid, when a bridge was out, there were barricades and signs. The morons these days believe everyone has a cellphone so they know everything there is to know.
Who ya gonna believe???... Google? or these lyin road signs???
Leftists have removed road signs route number signs and most all other sinage in some states.
Per order Obama administration.
As a friend said. That is what countries do when they are preparing for war
I hope the cops have ruled out homicide.
Who is responsible for marking the bridge with signs? That’s who should be sued.
Years ago, we had two people drive their trucks into a river when the bridge collapsed.
The police had barricades up once the call came in.
This happened in the middle of the night during a tremendous downpour, and the two deceased couldn’t see that the bridge had collapsed.
No idea why there were no signs to stop drivers, or what the circumstances of the accident are.
But I suspect that a young lawyer thought of a way to collect $$ from the widows’ tragedy and make a name for himself.
They should have sued the DOT of that state, but I suspect there is a basic immunity from lawsuit in that state.
So, sue Goog and hope that they pay out rather than fight it in the press.
He obviously didn’t see the little man figure on his phone waving flags as he approached the bridge. I’m thinking the county or state for not having barricades on the bridge approaches is most culpable, but even if it’s night and raining, your supposed to slow down and look ahead so as to not overdrive your ability to react.
The driver is responsible for where he drives the car. GPS doesn’t drive the car. A human does. This is just part of the move to eliminate human responsibility for one’s actions, and to pick up a few undeserved million.
“Recalculating.....Recalculating.....Recalculating.....Recalculating.....”
News reports say the bridge has been out since 2013 and the county refused to barricade it or even post “Road Closed” signs. The county also refused to notify Google and other map services of the bridge being out.
The lawsuit is a bridge too far.
“Leftists have removed road signs route number signs and most all other sinage in some states.”
No they haven’t
So the county has no excuse.
Here is how it typically works. After hours road hazards are typically reported by the public or by the night shift police units. A call is made to the road supervisor who reorts to the scene to assess the damage and the amount of labor and equipment that is necessary to barricade the area or make repairs. Failure to take action moves the needle from negligence to gross negligence.
I had a project land on my desk to build a new flashing/barricaded RR crossing. This crossing was identified by the RR as high hazard. The current Public Works Director had been sitting on the project for 2 years even though it was fully funded. Being new to the job, I called the funding agency and asked what was required to move this forward. When he told me to sign the funding agreement and send it back, I nearly fell out of my chair. It took another year to complete but I was sweating bullets every day.
Send her a short explanation of Darwinism. He husband was too stupid to survive. She apparently is too.
Seems to have been a privately owned ridge.
