A man who died at a New England Patriots home game last weekend after he was punched at least twice in the head did not suffer a “traumatic injury” in the stands but had a medical issue, authorities in Massachusetts announced Wednesday.

SNIP

“Preliminary autopsy results did not suggest traumatic injury, but did identify a medical issue,” according to the statement. “Cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending further testing.”

The district attorney’s office did not provide any details on Mooney’s medical issue.

Well, both could be “linked”. A couple punches in the head could be the proximate cause of a heart attack, for example.

A couple punches in the head

Wouldn't that be a traumatic injury, which they did not find?

It's amazing how things escalate. It started with a punch or slap, now some people say beaten to death.

Kudos to the Freepers yesterday who speculated yesterday that this guy died of something other than a physical injury resulting from that fracas.

One even came right out and said “the fat slob started the fight and had a heart attack.”

No, a punch is an action, not an injury. An injury might be caused by a punch.

You know about doctors doing autopsies? They can find a traumatic injuries. They don’t just guess at a person’s cause of death. Maybe rarely they do. They can tell if a person was shot. They find bullet wounds.

You’re making a category error. A punch is not an injury. A punch could be the cause of an injury, but the two are separate things.

We have witnesses saying the man was punched, whether or not the person performing the autopsy found an injury that evidenced such. Whether such a punch contributed to the death is a different matter, but just saying they found a “medical issue” does not mean that a punch might not have contributed.

This kind of thing highlights why, in many cases, the person performing the autopsy does not determine the cause of death. They may not have all the relevant information simply from examining the body. A pathologist only examining the body might find, for example, classic signs of a heart attack, and then might rule it a death by natural causes. But a coroner who holds an inquest and looks at other evidence could find that the heart attack immediately followed a violent incident which put the person in a stressful situation, in which case the resulting heart attack would not fit the definition of “natural causes”.

They don’t disclose what the was the cause of death. Maybe he died of cancer or old age or an embolism or a heart attack, exactly at the time he was punched in the face. What are the odds? Amazing.

Okay, yes, someone very weak punched me, and I didn't feel it, so there was no injury. But the rest of what you say is not very logical. You are saying there was a punch, but there was NO injury, but the punch caused the death?

Was it a magic punch?

Also, I don't think we have all the facts. I have no idea. Maybe someone fell over, and people started saying there was a punch. You and contending that all rumors should be taken has 100% fact and not investigated.

Answer me this:

You jostle someone on the sidewalk, then the next day they die. The Medical Examiner says there is no physical injury.

But you did jostle them. So, obviously committed murder. You will confess and plead guilty, right?

Thinking it’s safe to say that if he wasn’t involved in the brawl he would’ve returned home alive.

Where did you read there was a brawl? I only read there was one punch, and that hasn’t even been verified.

No matter the length or depth of the blatant coverup, this is a clear case requiring the SSS strategy...

Yes, yes, his “underlying issue” just happened to cause his death after being punched to the head a couple of times, I’m sure its a coincidence (eye roll)....

There is a video and it looks like he gets hit two times...two quick blows and he goes down....being involved in a fight at a game? Very stupid...he mighta’ been stroking out during the fight and couldn’t react to the fists...and then went down...people can die of strokes or heart attacks during high stress events like fires, etc...
Best rule... don’t fight with strangers for no reason...
