A New England Patriots season ticket holder has been 'beaten to death' by a Miami Dolphins supporter at the Gillette Stadium, according to witnesses.
Father-of-two Dale Mooney, 53, of Newmarket, New Hampshire, died following an incident in the 300-tier segment of the arena just before 11pm on Sunday.
The Norfolk County DA's Office said cops responded to calls for medical aid in the section at 10.57pm and 'the matter remains under active investigation'.
A photo from the Foxborough, Massachusetts stadium show EMTs scrambling to revive someone who is out of shot on the ground as worried fans watch on.
Videos also show security trying to break up a scuffle, and medics administering CPR a short time afterwards.
One witness from the scene, Joseph Kilmartin, described the alleged attack by a Miami Dolphins fan as 'hard to watch'.
'They started tussling around for a few minutes,' Kilmartin told WCVB.
'At one point another Dolphins fan walked over. He punched him three times, and the man just went out. It was pretty hard to watch.'
Several other anonymous witnesses gave similar descriptions of the 'brutal' attack which caused Mooney to 'crumble', while speaking with Boston 10 at the scene.
'One word I can really use is shocking,' one bystander said. 'My thoughts go out to that man's family. It's awful what happened,' another person commented.
Mooney's devastated wife said she felt 'numb' after hearing the horrific news about her husband and father-of-two, who has been a dedicated Patriots season ticket holder for three decades.
'I just feel numb I can't even believe this is for real,' Lisa Mooney told WCVB.
'I don't understand why people have to go to that extreme. Why can't it just be fun, that's all it's supposed to be, just a fun family event.'

I’ve gotten funny looks from people when I made statements like that.
I think the people who are part of the culture of tailgating, paying to see the game in person, and just spending a large part of the day dedicated to a football game are disproportionately white men, and it's no secret that many of them have been drinking well before kickoff.
Video with pics of white victim. No mention of race of attackers, but it was caught on film.
“My thoughts go out to that family”!? WTH does that mean? Prayers yes, but thoughts?
Aren’t all these sportsball stadiums “gun free zones”? The man had no chance to defend himself.
Pathetic post to say the least.
I haven’t been to Foxborough in years, but last time I was there the fans were nearly 100% white. Tickets are expensive and New England is still whiter than the country as a whole. We have Latin immigrants, but mostly welfare migrants, who are not interested in American Football and cannot afford the price.
It’s good that I might be wrong.
I do hope the perp is caught.
It’s kind of stupid to fight when you are ID’d from your ticket purchase. He probably didn’t pay cash for his ticket.
Wise counsel!
Obama's sons generally can't afford to attend an NFL game. Drunken white trash can be just as bad as Obama's sons.
Most blacks can’t afford the $100 tickets. The ones that can are usually well behaved. If its in Boston, I blame the Irish or Italians. /spit
Football fans are half step higher on the animal evolution chart than professional wrestling dolts. Football players are a half a step lower.
Winter is coming.
I recall people making fun of the Philadelphia football stadium that had a judge for disorderly fans. I guess it’s not so funny now because now a corner is needed.
People get to competitive. Even the players don’t get that upset if their team loses. Every game I have went to there are fans being cuffed and taken out. All that money blown for tickets and everything and they are thrown out by halftime.
What a waste. And all to watch a bunch of multi-millionaires play a kids’ game.
He reminds me of an old supervisor of mine. Boston native and big, big (physically and mentally) Boston sports fan. Holding my old super up as yahd-stick, gotta say it, Patriot/Boston fans are some of the most obnoxious people on earth. But yeah, killing the guy is a little harsh.
May God rest his soul.
Yeah, but true.
