Police determined this week that a fatal northwest Las Vegas hit-and-run crash was intentional.
On Aug. 14, Andreas Probst, a 64-year-old retired Bell, California, police chief was struck by a 2016 Hyundai Elantra near Tenaya Way and Centennial Parkway while riding a mountain bike in the bike lane around 6 a.m.
Probst died at University Medical Center.
The Metropolitan Police Department arrested the 17-year-old driver of the Hyundai who fled the scene of the crash on suspicion of hit-and-run.
On Tuesday, detectives found a video of the crash posted on social media that they used to determine that the crash was intentional, according to a department statement.

Not the best forum to post this article. An awful lot of FReepers really and truly have a visceral hatred for adult cyclists.
I’ve known of many, many bicyclists that were killed by motorists (In Florida, 183 in 2021 alone) and this is the only one I’m aware of that was pursued as a homicide (but most of the others should have been).

They intentionally aimed for and hit the bicyclist. Not even an accident. 1st degree murder.

I have hatred and disdain only for those who don't know the rules of the road, or those who do and ignore them. This cyclist was following them.

I had an idiot do that to me, when I was bicycling. He sped by me at around 80kph, on a residential road and missed me about 6”.
Always there is someone anxious to contrive a controversy with other “freepers” as if they could not go to Yahoo or some other site and say some snide comment about people who post in Disqus or another platform.
Do you also have hatred and disdain for motorists "who don't know the rules of the road, or those who do and ignore them"? Because motorists are every bit as flippant as cyclists (if not moreso) about obeying laws only when it's convenient.
It's rare you hear of a bicyclist running into a car. The opposite, not so much.
Ignorance abounds. Horse riders also have the same dislike. I guess the mountain bikers have taken over some of their riding trails.
I was a cmpetitive cyclist for many years, I lost three friends over the years. Two in Albuquerque, they all were careful riders who lost to idiot drivers.
On two wheels you have to ride like a deer on opening day of hunting season.

Rules of the road don’t apply here. This was intentional murder. These guys were following no rules or laws. A bullet in the head for the driver would be quite appropriate here.
This time it’s some ‘youths’ being, well, ‘youths’. Next time it’s a woman texting, the time after that it will be someone getting cut off due to a lane change. Not the smartest thing to allow people to ride bicycles so close to vehicular traffic, at least in my opinion.
