Millions of Americans who have cellphone bills, car payments, Taylor Swift tickets and mortgages are dreading this day too. You don’t see us pimpin’ the old demented geezer to force the workers to pay our bills. We do it ourselves. Every damn month.

It is amazing how many people are so ignorant about simple math, or simply believe they will not ever have to pay back a loan. Some people assume they will always be forgiven or be able to go bankrupt.
Much of that half a million in debt is accumulating interest, because she refuses to pay her debt.

I agree, it is. And it was also your choice to take on that much debt. Do not expect me to help you pay it off.
To: Oldeconomybuyer
She’s right - it’s an obscene amount. Why would anyone ever take out that much in student loans? I would expect someone capable of finishing dental school to be better at math than that.

Eriksen says it's impossible to live in San Francisco, pay rent and pay back her loans. Even a caveman can connect the dots...

Easy solution. Move out of SF and move your practice, or join another practice, in a cheaper city or state. If she owns her home, she’ll make a lot of $$.

with zero payments having been made for almost four years she must surely have saved up a ton of money to pay down the principle on these albatrosses.

I just went on line for an ever so brief peek and found a $280k loan at 6% for 10 years is about $3k per month and a total of about $470k. How is this a surprise?
I hope the good dentists doesn’t overbill patients and expect them not to pay.

The ABC sob story has some odd numbers in it.....
Please see: "Average tuition for 66 US dental schools"
https://www.beckersdental.com/benchmarking/39359-average-tuition-for-66-us-dental-schools.html
Check out the difference between UCLA and USC in southern California, as an example of tuition. The ABC dentist made some bad decisions, it seems....

1. Her practice is in a fancy area. These people don't want their teeth pulled, or cheap fillings. It's implants and caps. A “dentist to the rich” should be able to make 150-200K a year, even just starting out. Eat spaghetti and chicken for a couple of years, and pay the thing down.
2. Joint the army. A couple of stints and they'll pay your student loans.
3. Work in a rural area, there are many programs that will forgive student loans if you make a commitment to be there for 5 or 10 years.
She wants to have her cake and eat it too.
