Mexico's cartels to control our food supply, too?
American Thinker ^ | 4 Sep, 2023 | Monica Showalter

Crushing federal and state regulations are forcing California's farmers to move operations to Mexico. What could go wrong?

Anybody notice who might be getting their hands on the U.S. food supply?

I found it buried in an Epoch Times story about Congress's upcoming Farm Bill spendathon, set to go to a vote in December. It's supposedly aid to U.S. farmers, including California's, the U.S.'s top agricultural state, which produces much of the U.S. food supply.

But it's hardly a solution.

Turns out the regulatory burden is so nasty out there it's driving farmers in California to move operations to Mexico where the already cash-fattened cartels control the farms, too.

According to the Epoch Times:

The Manasseros said many Southern California farmers will instead relocate to Mexico to be competitive.

However, they say such economic pressures on U.S. producers may have deadly consequences by placing countries like Mexico as the top food producer for the United States.

According to Mr. Manassero, as American farmers continue to be out-competed and Mexico dominates the food market, food insecurity may become a bigger concern due to corruption interwoven with farming across the border.

“The [drug] cartels run everything down there [including] the farmers. They’re very big into the farming industry for money laundering … they would just jack up the prices [of food] to whatever they want once [American] farmers are out of business,” he said.

California seems to be a lost cause. I need to do more work in my garden today.

They have sold us out to the cartels, and they deliberately are destroying the economy.

This article is a bit over the top. Mexico is already has a strong agricultural capacity.

AS of 2020:

Mexico is a major global producer and exporter of agricultural products, capturing a significant share of the total world exports of citrus and melons (31%), tomatoes (24%), cucumbers (19%), and tropical fruit (22%), including pineapples, mangoes, avocados, and guavas (ITC, 2019). The agriculture and food sector is one of the main engines of Mexico’s rural economy, representing 3.3% of its national gross domestic product (GDP) (World Bank, 2019). The sector has experienced significant growth during the last few years: Production value of crops and livestock increased by 21% and 12%, respectively, between 2012 and 2017 (SIAP, 2018b). Mexico’s exports and share in total world exports of agricultural products also increased during the same period.

https://www.choicesmagazine.org/choices-magazine/theme-articles/the-agricultural-production-potential-of-latin-american-implications-for-global-food-supply-and-trade/mexicos-agricultural-sector-production-potential-and-implications-for-trade#:~:text=Mexico%20is%20a%20major%20global,guavas%20(ITC%2C%202019).

The cartels are already in control of the agricultural business in Mexico and are all over the US ag production. I don’t see how losing control in the US but gaining it in Mexico is going to make much of a difference. And it would also dwindle the capacity of organized crime away from that industry in the US currently pulling the strings.

Is Mexico’s criminal cartel worse than the one running America?

You betcha!

That’s one reason why I’m working very hard to get my own hands into providing my own food supply.

It’s almost like high-level powerful people in our government have been compromised by the narcostate next door.

“Is Mexico’s criminal cartel worse than the one running America?”

Interesting question. It got me to pondering.
The cartels have a very harsh justice systems. Extremely so.
However their systems appear to be colorblind and have much better ethics than the Rich Men North of Richmond.
So, I am not sure.
I will ponder some more

Your question implies that there is not a substantial overlap. It would be interesting to know the extent, if any, of Mexican cartel influence in the California legislature, for example.

Prepper Ping – California food and produce at risk due to increased State regulations ?
Mexico, the land of the drug Cartels, is increasingly becoming the major food producer for the US as food production relies more on imports.

(My Opinion): Have we forgotten the reliance on foreign sources for fuel brought about the "gas lines" of the 60's and 70's.
Mexico's dependence of "remittances" from Mexican labor in the US has provided the country with it's second largest source of income (not including the drug cartel income).
The avocado trade is a recent example of drug cartels controlling and raising the price of food commodities;
do we want to increase our reliance on foreign sources considering the supply chain issues we experienced on the west coast last year?

DH read about avocados recently. The cartels totally control the avocado farmers, so when we buy Mexican avos we help the cartels. Any farmers not giving the cartels their cut get murdered.

Of course CA used to produce many, in fact I worked in a small office located in a “former” avocado orchard years ago. When they ripened, people around would come and collect in buckets. I have no clue why they were not marketed.

Regarding this “Farm Bill”, why the (deleted bad word) does this R controlled Congress do any good? there are about 15 rinos on it, but McCarthy is a weak sister who should be removed and replaced by the Fredom Caucus!

The republicans in congress need the senate to do anything and actually need a veto proof senate to get past the potato.

tRUCKS Of avocados are already being hijacked in Mexico while on their way to the U.s.

In some places in Mexico, one of the cartels is the government.

The real problem is massive election fraud, in so many states. My state, OR, has had rotten elections for 25 years since they pushed all mail in voting. Without the many kinds of election fraud, the whole country would look very, very different.

I had a brother-in-law (now ex-brother-in-law) who owned land in Mexico. He grew avocado and agave for tequila. The cartels came in and took both over. Supposedly the government has run them out, but can’t say. There’s a reason he’s an ex BIL. So we don’t know the situation anymore for sure.

We DO have a Weekly Garden Thread here on FR for those that want to either start small or Go Big or Go Home with growing their own foodstuffs, canning and preserving, YUMMY recipes, raising small livestock such as chickens and rabbits, or bigger critters such as goats, beef cattle or dairy cows. Been there! Done that! Got the blisters and the bad back to prove it, LOL!

We are here to help! All questions answered and ‘the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.’ (We Miss You, Greeneyes!)

Just search ‘Weekly Garden Thread’ to jump right in, or message Diana in Wisconsin to be added to our weekly Ping List. New weekly thread each Saturday Morning. :)

We know our stuff, have done it all, have members that grow a food garden in ALL of our growing zones. You probably can’t do EVERYTHING, so at least do ONE thing to help you and yours in this crazy world we’re living in.

Again, we are here to help! :)
